Please can anyone tell me the difference in a before 04/00 and after 05/00 4.7 found in the Landcruisers?

I want to buy a 01 Tundra replacement motor for my 2000 landcruiser.

Can anyone advise me. There is a local pic and pull that has one for 150, but I will rebuild it. my land cruiser has 250kno leaks and no oil loss but am just worried that day is coming. I service the timing belt every 90k and change the oil and filters a 3k and it had been so loyal.

??? Why would you replace the motor?? You have at least another 250k miles to go until you catch up with some of the other members. ;)

Just paranoid. It has no leaks, it puffed a little smoke a month ago at start up. but never since. I shoul have bought a LC years ago.

I bought it a year ago. and typically do a preventive item a weekend or to, replace wheel bearings, change diff oils, trandfer case oils, u joints, belts upgrade speakers. I have rebuilt a lot of engines, never a Toyota.

Bottom line want to be prepared.

You don't need to replace the motor at 250k. And the difference between the Tundra and LC motors is where they were made.

so the accessories and oil pan patterns are the same?

I have owned chevy's new z71's, Dodge 3500 .Laramie's, and the Toyota is the best fitting a quality I have ever owned. I don't see getting rid of it. but the older it gets the more rare the replacement parts get.

a good measure of a quality car is how many are in the wrecking yard. I cannot find any LC's here in central texas.

A puff of smoke is somewhat normal. Oil can settle and swap around the rings. My dad's 2010 f150 does it more than I would like for my vehicles, but I've even seen it once in my 2000 cruiser. Some will say it's not normal at all, but a google search will show you it's more common than most people think. And it's really nothing to worry about unless it's burning oil continually.

I can say the oil stays clean all the 3k, I recently bought a 97 mark viii with 100k and it is jet black after a change.

I can't say for sure about that but I lean towards yes. I wait until somebody more knowledgeable than myself chimes in.

You won't find them anywhere. These parts are bought like hot cakes.

yes sir, if I can find a spare hub here, brake master cylinder, booster, oil cooler, etc and just pack away. I want to retire again in ten and nooooo car payments. plus these thin gs are so easy to work on. sure not needing an engine today, but when, what if?

The Tundra I-force is a cheap version of the 2UZ-FE that the Land Cruisers use. The internals are similar, but the precision and materials are not the same.

Parts are getting rare? Maybe for a 60 series, but Toyota is still producing 80 series parts IIRC.

If your about to dump 20K into a motor swap just because, why not sell the 2000 and get a 2007? I would hate to see you invest that much money just to find out you installed a lesser engine. I'd rather see you invest it into a 2007 and enjoy a nice low mileage truck with a much better drivetrain. Send a sample of all your oils to Black Stone. They should be able to tell how healthy the motor is.

If you are dropping 20k on a motor swap, make it 28k and be the first to let diesel toyz in Texas instal a 1hd-fte turbo diesel. That's my plan after 500k miles and a winning lotto ticket. ;)
