Difference between Diff-lock and hub-locks PLEASE!!!! (1 Viewer)

i have driven my 80 in all sorts of tropical terrain and used the diff-locks, but the KZJ71 is new to me and i have been told that the diff lock is different from hub locks..... iam confused please some one tell me how to use the hublocks..............

If the hubs are not locked, the front wheels are disconnected from the axles.. Without the hubs locked, you will NEVER have 4WD.

Lock the hubs when you first get off the pavement and you think you may need 4WD - drive as long as you want with the hubs engaged..
If you read your owners manual, typically the manufacturer recommends driving 10% of the time with the hubs engaged.
I engage my hubs in the fall, at the first sign of snow, and dis-engage only when the roads are dry in the spring, or i'm going for a longer trip on the highway.

It is my understanding that most 80's are full-time 4WD, and thus have a differential in the transfer case..

hub locks on the KZJ71 will be electric. you CAN NOT engage the hub locks on the 'fly'... you need to be at a complete dead stop.
once the hub locks are engaged then you can shift from 2H to 4H at any speed.
diff lock engages the diff locker
hub lock engages the frotn hubs.

Diff Locks are in the axle center sections (aka differentials.)

Hub Locks are at the outer ends of the axle tubes (usually only on the front axle.)

Lock-out Hubs connect or disconnect the wheels from the axle assembly, while a Diff Lock keeps both axle shafts in an axle assembly turning together.

guys thanks for the response, i really appreciate the info, its just a smart-elec mechanic told me that i cannot turn my vehicle with hub-locks engaged.... i know that using diff-locks with both rear and front engaged in my 80series all wheels turn at the same rate, so not a wise idea to make full turns...

however i wanted to know if i can turn the 71 around with hub-locks engaged and in 4H....

ummm, if you are in 4H on hard packed surfaces then it is not a wise move to make tight turns.
on loose gravel, dirt, sand, mud, snow, ice, grass then no issue at all.
pavement, hard packed dirt, cement then you are causing severe gear bind and 'CAN' break something... sooner or later.

just saying...

If you are gonna go "mudding" better fit a set of Simex or Super Swamper mud tires!
