Can I put a thirdmember from a 79 into a 71?

yup. Don't know what year the studs in the housing were smaller but
i'm pretty sure it was prior to 71'

He just asked can I put it in. He didn't ask what it would do. But yes, they do have different gears. Assuming that the other third is stock, then it would be 4.10 and the 79 would be 3.70.

Thanks, I did know they have diffent gears. I was thinking 3.70 or 3.72 would be nicer with the three speed on the road. Plus I'm putting in a 79 axle in the front for the better braking of the discs.
