A friend has 2 FJ62's and one HJ62. The body is really bad on the HJ and he's was originally was going to put the Diesel / auto trans into the FJ. The dilemma is the FJ getting the diesel swap is a manual transmission FJ.

The FJ is a running rig and he has the choice to use what ever.

I'm thinking it would be a PITA to remove the manual trans stuff, and even more work installing it into an auto trans FJ in his the future build.

Whats your thoughts? Swap it all or just the diesel?

Just swap the diesel into the FJ62 with the manual,if he doesnt like it he can swap it for an auto later.
Generally slow diesels go a bit better with a manual trans IMO
He is lucky to have a good choice of donors.

No dilemma here, swap just the diesel and away you go.
More power and better fuel economy and you are obviously OK with a manual tranny.

He was considering keeping the auto that was with the diesel. but after reading this he's probably going to reconsider.

How about resale value, better with the manual?

I forgot to mention he wants to run. larger tire. So another reason to use the manual trans IMO.

So now the question is what flywheel will he need for the HJ diesel? Will the FJ fly wheel be the same?

Dont automatics use the torque converter as a flywheel and only have a drive plate for the starter motor to turn?
I havent pulled out an auto since 1978:D

I believe you are correct, but he wants to ditch the auto that's with the HJ diesel and use the Manual on the FJ. wondering what hell need to make this work. IE is the flywheel the same with this engine?

I see.
Toyodiy showsdifferent flywheel part numbers for the F and H engines.

the F and the H do use different flywheels.
you MIGHT be able to get the flywheel from the F to work with some mods but the flywheel is balanced to the crank.
i would suggest finding a proper flywheel and clutch kit for the H to save a lot of headaches.

Anyone have a possible source for the HJ flywheel. He's able to find parts at a forklift repair facility. Not sure the forklift place would have a flywheel though.

If your looking for parts ,the correct term would be for a 2H engine.Im not sure if the flywheel from a 12HT or older H engine would work.
This is where you can compare part numbers ToyoDIY.com

flywheel and ????

Hello all
Thanks DMX84 aka Dean for getting the post started for me. I am not much for blogs but will work on that and hopefully get some pictures up soon of the diesel swap progress.

The plan in short is to put the 2h motor and interior out of the HJ into the clean body/frame of the blue FJ60. Then take the good tranny out of the HJ an swap in for the bad auto tranny in the white FJ62 and lastly the solid motor that came out of the blue FJ60 will go into the Red FJ60 that is only missing the motor. Crap that is a lot of swapping.

My only issue to date is finding the flywheel for the 2h motor which I am working on. My question to the board is can anyone think of any other got-ya items that I wont already have for the swap?
Will the FJ clutch assembly work with the 2h flywheel?
Will the FJ bell housing and 2h motor mate up?
I know I am missing something and any leads on a 2H flywheel is much appreciated.
Pulling the motor out of the Blue FJ this friday and will hopefully have enough pix to start a new thread about the conversion.

Best

They have different bellhousings with the 2H housing totally enclosing the flywheel. The F housing has an inspection plate at the base
