I have found a diesel foklift engine that I can get for a very good price (free).
Shipping is not a problem, I just need to find out if it would be worth it to acquire it.
It has a 132 on the valve cover, and on the data tag it has a model number of Z EC B-3.
Does anyone know anything about it?
Electronic control or not?
It looks like it might have the same bolt pattern as other toyota straight 6's.
It is complete as far as the injectors, lines, etc, only missing the starter.
It may be a 97 vintage engine, I am going to look on the forklift itself next time I look at it.
Even if it has major mechanical problems, I can fix it, and it may be the only way I ever realize my dream of having a diesel in one of my 40's.

Sounds good. If its a 97 it may be the 1hz version of a forklift engine.

There is a thread here from Norway that shows the installation of a engine from a forklift. I will have a search for it.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for.
That is the exact same engine.
Now I know it is a 13Z on top and not a 132. LOL
I guess I was thinking of the 135 on my old F engine.

With 62 kw he wont be drag racing any Merc 300D:D

Yes, but that is what the small block Cruisers are for. I have always wanted a diesel Cruiser to add to my Powerstroke, which does get up and go pretty good.
And the 13Z will eventually get a turbo.

Im not sure where your home port is ,but have you considered a B engine which will much easier to rebuild ,fit and maintain and a 3B will have more power?
No one here has any experience with a 13Z . Its designed for a forklift truck (and probably agricultral tractors) to run hydraulic pumps and get good fuel economy in a warehouse.
Its torque characteristics may be way out of wack with the needs of a road vehicle.
If your adventurous,go ahead, it may turn out a great swap but there maybe a reason why Toyota designed it for certain types of vehilcles

Well it may be interesting to try to seek out some specs. Is the bore and stroke the same as a 1HZ? Maybe the injection pump can be replaced with one from a 1HZ.

It is a 6 cylinder IDI engine. ?? 62 KW means nada to me, but I could do the conversion to HP. Any idea rosco?

Might be if it so low on pwr that the injection pump really limits the rpm. Like what a forlift needs.

I thinks its about 83 hp,roughly the same as a 2B
It maybe just the govenor or other settings on the pump that limits the HP.
Im just thinking for all that work he might as well go with something more standard unless he really wants to blaze a trail.
Im certainly not that adventurous as to go swapping fuel pumps:D

Do you think the profile of the camshaft would be suitable for street-driving?

I know some marine-spec diesels like Perkins are meant to stay at one rpm at all times, would spooling up through a gearbox be a problem?

we need Vegards buddy on here who swapped it into a 60 to tell us......

Rosco its easy to be adventurous with a "free engine". But I know there will still be many cost..

I was looking at the specs. The max HP and torque are given at 2600rpm while the Landcruiser engines are rated at about 3600.
It could also be the cam profile that Mooose mentioned.
They are either speed limited or reach their max output very early.
I dont know the weight of the engine but being a 4.6 litre 6 cyl its gonna be heavy:rolleyes:
Free aint always cheap:D

Have not heard more about the 13Z project.

But I know this guy in Norway is a forklift mechanic.

I was told the 13Z engine has a lot more potential to it than the 84hp it puts out in standard set up.

13z diesel engine

i just purchased my first LC fjz80, wanting to swap to diesel powertrain. i work on toyota forklifts for a living and i do know that the 2000-2300 rpm ratings are for the hydraulic pumps bolted to the engine.
what i dont know is if you can get more performance/RPM without damaging the 13z engine. the other option for the forklift 13z engine is the 4.3l vortec and the 4.5l 1fz-fe. those are the Toyota powertrain options. i would think they are all in the same hp/ft-lb ballpark when the 2200 rpm isnt an issue. this is my new info mission, will post more when i find some answers. maybe i can get one of my customers to let me "experiment" with a 13z for a day:idea:

does anyone know if these motors are internally the same as a 12ht? they look pretty similiar on the outside. just thinking about the options of stroking out a 12ht, if you could put a crank and set of rods from one of these into a 12ht and get it to 4.6 litres it would be pretty awesome
