Hello everyone. I’m trying to figure out if my 78’ FJ55 originally had an oil cooler that some PO took off and connected everything up with the straight pipe shown in the attached photos. Sorry for the funky pictures that area of my engine bay is pretty full.

That looks like a water pipe that was pushed out of the way for the DUI dist. It mounts along the top edge of the head near the valve cover.
 
That's what it looks like to me as well.
On a 2F with an oil cooler, there would be an additional port on the water pump. Which could have been swapped out as well. Probably no way of knowing for sure
 
Federal spec trucks (vs. Calif.) did not always have oil coolers. Pighead is right - with a different water pump, you might never know.
 
Gotcha and thank you, to everyone who relied. You guys uncovered my real question which was what water pump I needed. Mine started puking on a drive this week. A 5 min call to Cruiser outfitters and we got it sorted. Fingers crossed it arrives Saturday so I can do the swap.
