Came from my '93, these have the one-year only NLA 2.2 kW starter.
Was working but occasionally wouldn't engage flywheel all the way and would do the grinding sound. I replaced it pretty quickly afterwards with a 1.4 kW starter. No intentions of keeping this one. My 1.4 kW did just fine starting in 0* F weather so I have no use for this one any more.
From what I've read, it just needs the contact plates replaced. That'll be up to you to determine and diagnose though, I can't guarantee this.
