Deveining(vaning??) a smog pump (1 Viewer)

Just had the smog pump seize- I know, how odd . So I have the thing apart and wondering how I remove the "bad stuff" and turn it into a fan belt tensioner. Excuse my lack of terminology, but I am looking at a rotating "barrel" on the inside with the allen bolts holding the housing for the bearing as well as the "barrel". BTW it is full of grit, grease and rust- mainly accumulated power steering fluid. Thanks.

Thanks for the link- hopefully this cheap way will work. I just gutted the pump- actually pretty easy- even for rookies like me. One of the "fans" in the pump disintegrated and jammed it. Cleaned it all out and now will try to run it like this- obviously now not pumping air. Anyone know if this is ok and that the gutted pump should work as a spinning pulley/belt tensioner.

Yup. Been runnin' mine without the guts inside it for about 6 months or so now. Obviously it's not the best option, but it works.

Or, just rip it out and put in another alternator for welding purposes.
