Based on searching this forum, I've come to believe that there are no real locker solutions other than ARB for the 100.

However googling around I came across this:

Land Cruiser Detroit Locker Differential® 30 Spline 1.37 in. Axle Shaft Diameter

...which seems to indicate that Detroit locker would be available for the 100 as well (the year range is odd though [98 - 03]). Is this just a mistake on the site? Any thoughts?

I love the idea of an autolocker/torsen with ATRAC in the rear...

I personally would install a Detroit only in a trail-only rig. For a daily driver/expedition rig, selectable is the way to go.

well it is a little bit cheaper than an ARB but I have seen nobody run a detroit locker in a 100. Plus with every

AXLE:Front 8 in.

Looks like this is a case of mistaken labeling too, so no chance of fitting... oh well.

If I could get ARB's installed for less than $2,500 (all in, with me doing the compressor install) that would be an easier choice...

So what would the disadvantage of a an "auto-locking" design be then? Would it be not being able to unlock in slippery side-slope situations?

And what is the advantage of the Kaiser (at 3x the cost) over the Aussie Lockers? Not that it matters, since neither is made for the hundy.

They can have odd driving mannerisms (clicking, banging around corners, pulling sideways on sidehills), but they're generally a LOT cheaper than selectable lockers.

The thing that sucks about a locker in the front of a 100 is the install costs. If you're doing CVs you're not that many bolts away from having the diff out and installing a locker.

It'll be interesting to see how folks like the "Kaiser" design... it appears that it might avoid the traditional pitfalls of a traditional auto-locker.

I think the problem with the auto lockers is that they are locked whilst going straight. This can make the vehicle hard to control (tendency to spin) under slippery (snow, ice, rain) conditions on the road. Thats why they aren't recommended for DD vehicles.

Wouldn't an auto locker screw up the ATRAC? When you engage the lockers the ATRAC is defeated correct? So if you had an auto locker the ATRAC would be defeated permanently correct?

Also, for your notes. Cruisers have been 30 spline for a long time front and rear. 100s are 32 spline in the rear and 30 in the front. So any time you see 30 spline mentioned for the rear it is pre 100 series LC.

ATRAC wouldn't be automatically defeated, but would not ever activate because with the locker, the wheels wouldn't ever slip.

Not that they would never slip, but if they did slip they would slip at the same rate, not something A-TRAC would be able to detect.

It all sounds like not such a great idea unless you're building a dedicated trail rig and trying to save some money and/or remove some complexity (e.g. compressor, air lines and whatnot).

Aussie locker does not make one for 100 series...they do not recommend on full time 4wd unless trail rig. I do not think you can run one with ATRAC to be truthful....

I have one in my 60 series rear only and it is phenomenal....

On full time 4wd I would go ARB
