I am the new proud owner of a 1979 FJ40. It's a very solid rig, the fellow who had it took very good care of it. It is almost completely stock except most of the emissions components have been removed, including the charcoal canister. I smell fuel when I'm driving and I think it has to do with it being de-smogged. Rather than trying to find all the original smog equipment, I would like to get good, detailed information on the proper way to de-smog a 1979 2F.
Thanks much,
Lloyd Biddlecome

Go to the FJ-60 area and search for "My Desmog Thread".

You will have more info than you know what to do with.

Good Luck

Congratulations on your new truck, and welcome to Mud.

The proper way to de-smog a 2F does NOT include removing the charcoal canister.

+1, there are numerous threads here and in the 60 section on de-smogging but that one is about the best all around.

Thanks for the leads guys. I'm learning lots of useful information on this site.
