Is there any way for the originator of a post to delete it? I don't see any options other than trying to get a moderator to do it for you.

Correct, report the post and the mod will address.
If this is a Classified, simply change the prefix to SOLD. Tech questions are best left up for future search results. That's the whole point behind the forum and keeping 15+ years of data available.
In many cases, deleting one post screws up the continuity of the conversation.....kinda like reading a book and someone pulled one paragraph...that can mess up the entire flow of the content.
