Indeed! Great party errhh meeting!

Thank you Shawn and Jill. The Boltreks had a great time. Thank you too to whomever gave the George Foreman-Emma was thrilled. Shawn, tell your Aussie mate that he's a Bogan; he'll love it.

Beer was fantastic-you're a legend.

If he's a bogan you may get punched, if not, he'll laugh. I suspect he'll laugh as even bogans don't reckon they are bogans.

If he ever calls you his Seppo, just smile and nod. Maybe ask if he is fair dinkum. Tell him you don't need some Collingwood supporter pissing in your pocket.

Wow. A few more of these and I could move down under and blend right in!

Translations please.

we have an Australian dictionary started at work, so I can tell you Seppo is short for septic tank yank (an american). the others there are new to me.
a 'shifter' is a crescent wrench, esky, is a cooler, bay marie- a buffet/steam table.:D

we tell him he needs to go for the bilingual skill pay since he speaks Australian.

So in an attempt to figure out this Collingwood stuff I did a little Google and came up with this page:
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/you-know-your-playing-collingwood-when.455497/

I didn't understand a damn thing.

fevola goal?
feral black and white scum (sounds racist and not pretty)
fagpie fan?
when a decision goes against the pies?
footy?
Wabbles?
epping train?
bogans?
feral bogan?

Lets ignore off-field antics; that is a discussion held by women and the media. (nice)
I could go on.

Translations please. Is this really English, or english, or ozzie, or what?

I thought Aussies were the few countries left that like Americans. Or does this term of endearment refer to a particular segment of our society (PWT)?

they are very nice to us and do like Americans, but do like to make fun of us. I was told a joke by an Aussie while there that was pretty similar to the seppo term. then he smiled and held up his beer to me, "cheers mate!" we had a good dinner with him and the dive boat crew.

it's kinda like you Marc, we poke a lot of jokes your way, but we love you just as much.:D

Seppo is Aussie for an American. Fair dinkum is Aussie for'are you serious' and pissing in your pocket means that someone is whispering sweet nothings in your ear.

Collingwood is an Aussie Rules team in Victoria with a similar reputation to the Raiders and those who aren't supporters (fans) would be mortified to be called such. Incidently, one does not 'root for' their team as here, but rather 'baracks for' their team.

fevola goal?
Brian Fevola, a Full Forward for the Lions and then Carlton. Thus a goal by him. He is considered one of the best and it has also come to mean a goal which very few folks could kick.

feral black and white scum (sounds racist and not pretty)
Collingwood's colours are black and white, and their supporters (whom those who are not supporters think of as 'scum or 'feral scum') are usually seen dressed in black and white to barack for their team.

fagpie fan?
Collingwood are called the Magpies, and one of teh derrogatory terms for them is teh 'Fagpies'.

when a decision goes against the pies?
When they lose a call from the umpire (similar to the erf in football (or 'Gridiron' in Aussie) calls an offside against one team rather than the other after the flag is thrown.

footy?
Aussie Rules football (AFL) to distinguish it from Football (Rugby), Gridiron (Football), and Soccer.

Wabbles?
Collingwood has a tendency to do really well during the seasona nd then lose the Grand Final (Super Bowl). They have done this often enough that it is called having the 'Colliwobbles'. This has been shortened in the Aussie fashion to 'the wobbles' meaning anyone who falters under pressure when it counts.

epping train?
Subburb of Melbourne, they have their own Footy club - the Epping Football Club. They were doing well and everyone got on the Epping train. Similar to how many folks are currently Bronco fans, but three years ago were Greenbay fans.

bogans?
A uniquely Aussie creation somewhere between a redneck and white trash. Often found driving expensice Chevy Caprices (called Holden Commodores) purchased with the massive pay packets they get for working FIFO at the mines cleaning toilets or preparing tucker (food).

feral bogan?
Like a feral cat - a really bad bogan.

Slightly less PC culture than the US. I miss that.

I could go on.
If you do, I will.:D

Seppo is actually Cockney Rhyming slang - Spetic Tank, rhymes with Yank.

Have a Butchers - rhymes with look - to have a look.

Dog and bone, rhymes with phone.

Trouble and strife, rhymes with wife, etc.

In my experience, Aussies dispise Americans. However, it is the type of loathing which younger brothers sometimes have for their older brothers. Sadly, Australia has adopted many of America's less-desireable characteristics... and they are resentful of that in their own way.

It is better now than it was when I moved there. Bush was prez when I moved there and I had a number of people whom I had never met want to fight me randomly just when they heard my accent.... odd for me, as usually it is only those who know me who want to kill me.
