Yeah, agreed. What's good for you? A run to Sandpoint? I'm not familiar with much around here but I'm open to whatever 👍

I would lean towards either a cars-and-coffee on a Saturday morning or a pizza and beer evening type somewhere near I-90.

Another opportunity for those who ski/board would be at one of the Toyota Free Ski Fridays:

  • Schweitzer = 24 January 2020
  • Silver = 31 January 2020
  • Mt. Spokane = 7 February 2020
  • 49 Degrees = 21 February 2020
  • Lookout = 6 March 2020

I will be going to a few of these for sure.

Steve

I think we could eventually do both the pizza thing and the coffee thing. Probably coffee is easier to do more consistently. I've found in the past just doing stuff regularly brings in more participants. Should it be just LC's or off road Toyotas in general?

I'm retrieving my 80 in a week or so, so I'm down with late this month for a begining 👍

I've never skied before (avid sledder though 😁) but I told my wife is like to learn to ski now. Tried snowboarding 15 years ago, it didn't take. LOL

I'm in for a gtg of the pizza/beer type. I think my skiing is done for the year unfortunately.

I am finally picking up my running fj40 this week. I can't wait to get out for for meet up with everyone. Pizza and beer sounds fun. Eventually I would love to do a free ski day.

Also, whats the lowdown on the Sandpoint shop?
It’s a pretty cool restoration shop, Joe and his crew do beautiful work and are understandably proud of it. They have a slew of parts but your probably not going to get any amok in’ deals there, (gotta understand it’s how he feeds his family, not just an obsession). He’s showed me around a couple of times and has always been pleasant. Last time I was there he told me he was going to start carrying & selling more accessories like ARB, racks, and the like. I think they changed the name to Cabinet Cruisers and they are located over in Ponderay down the street from Home Depot. It’s worth stopping by mid week for sure, so you can tell your rich friends you know a place where they can donate some money to a worthy cause, gleen some ideas, and just to see some sweet cruisers.

They changed their name and moved since the last time I was there. It is now the Land Cruiser Shop. I guy stepped in to help with the financing and it sounds like he also owns a company called Selkirk Offroad. Joe is great to work with and does a great job. I had him restore my hard top.

OK, Friday is the Schweitzer Toyota Free Ski Day...I will be there with my son. Driving the HDJ80. Usually park in the lower lot. Lunch at the Outback Inn. Lime-green shell, black pants, black helmet, TLCA neck warmer LOL.

Could, in theory, stop past the Land Cruiser Shop after skiing to say "hi!"

Could also do an early dinner at 2nd Avenue Pizza...have not been there in a few years but it was good IIRC.

Steve, thanks for the heads up👍🏼. I can't meet you for the snow activities, but maybe for the early pizza dinner. Around what time will this be? I gotta wait for my wife to get home from her teaching job in St Maries.

Depends...lifts close at 3:30, Land Cruiser Shop by 5pm I assume. I would think around 5:00. Right now it is snowing/raining on the mountain, so hoping that improves over night with lower temps. Also fighting a head cold, so hoping I feel better tomorrow.

I wish I could make it but I am an 8-5er sometimes 5-8er. Picking up my running FJ40 on Saturday, this will be the first time I have driven it in 10yrs! Pretty excited to say the least. I hope you get some good weather and kick that cold. I must have caught something yesterday as well . . .

If you guys make it to the CdA area, I'm game to meet up. My 40 has the 1f, and I don't feel like driving it too far, the 60 is torn apart, and the family LX470 just isn't as cool as the 40.

Hey Guys -

CycloSteve stopped by our shop today, got to check out his very clean & nice HDJ80. Thanks for visiting!

To answer a few questions in the thread about our history, etc:

My business partner Joe started doing Land Cruiser Restorations as a full-on business 5 or 6 years ago. Originally under the name of his body shop, then Cabinet Cruisers and now The Land Cruiser Shop. Prior to that he'd been doing automotive work, mostly on the collision side of the world. He's a highly skilled bodyman, mechanic and painter. He's restored A TON of FJ40, FJ45lv, FJ45, FJ60/62s, etc. You just wouldn't know it since he's not really one to self promote.

The transition to "The Land Cruiser Shop" was done as there was some confusion as to what the nature of the business was (some people thought it was a furniture business), whereas now it's quite clear.

I came in to the picture about 7 months ago to help grow the business. I've been a long time Toyota & 4WD enthusiast, having owned multiple 80 & 100 series Land Cruisers, in addition to Hilux, Jeeps, Tacomas, Tundras, etc. I come from a background of grassroots marketing and business development.

So to answer the question on Selkirk Offroad - that acts as the parent company of "The Land Cruiser Shop". The Selkirk Offroad brand will allow broader marketing to reach an audience in the modern Toyota & Offroad world, (service, lift kit installs, etc) and allows the The Land Cruiser Shop to be a narrowly focused niche parts development & restoration brand, specializing in 1960s through 1997 Toyota Land Cruisers.

We've grown our team to 5 very skilled technicians, including a custom suspension fabricator & a wiring/electrical specialist. We are also developing a great service department. And as before, we have a full paint & body shop. We do a lot more than high dollar restorations - happily doing a lot of suspension upgrades & brake jobs these days.

We are slowly adding brands that we are dealers for - currently we carry:
ARB
Ironman
Just got on board with ICON suspension & alloys
Roofnest Tents

Expect a lot of cool parts to be available through The Land Cruiser Shop soon - and some outreach events. We've been meaning to do a BBQ & brews event at our shop but we blinked and summer was over. We'll watch this forum and hopefully visit any get togethers you guys may have in the future. In the meanwhile, feel free to stop by our shop, we're open Monday - Friday 8 - 5.

Cheers,

Woody

Thanks Woody for the shout-out.

The Free Ski day was a bit of a bust as it was raining even at the summit. I did make one soggy run down the mountain before calling it a day and deciding to go have lunch and visit the Land Cruiser Shop back in town.

The visit to the shop was well worth the drive up to Sandpoint. I have been in a quite a number of shops over the years, and Woody and Joe run a top notch facility. The Cruisers in the shop looked great, and likely my 45 will find it's way up there for paint in the future.

Headed back to CdA so no Pizza at 2nd Avenue this evening for us. Hoping the weather improves, as it feels more like late March instead of late January. Next Friday, the 31st, is the Free Ski Day at Silver.

You got a 45? Love to see some pictures, passed up an opportunity to grab one years ago, still kicking myself

The 45 has been a major long-term project. Not your typical build, as it is a Franken-truck. Began life as a farm truck in southern ID, then to OR, eventually CA and presently at Valley Hybrids. Target date for being road/trail-worthy is this summer and the 45 run. Paint to follow.

Steve, I'm sorry I didnt make it out to meet you for the trip to The Cruiser Shop, been ironing out a couple issues that arose on my trip to transport my 80 from the Tehachapi Mountains in CA. Super rad 45. Not sure I saw it the last time I was at Valley Hybrids, but it's been a while since I was there. They absolutely do amazing work there though.

Woody, thank you for checking in to the thread! I will definately be keeping an eye out for some of your get-togethers. One of my favorite things years ago was hanging out at the loal hotrod shop BS'ing and getting to know the community over a couple beers.

Also, I'll be contacting you guys soon for an ARB bumper and a quote for some other work.

Salud!

Laurence
