Seems a little harsh but everybody has the right to their opinion. Yeah it really sucks what happened but the cold hard truth of it is, sooner or later the truck is going to get parted out whether by him or someone else. And inevitably he will take a loss on his insurance claim, so why not buy it back and part it out to off set his loss? The timing of the requests may seem to soon, but on the other hand, he will also have to make a decision on what he wants to do right away.

I have no interest in the vehicle and I am commenting as a person who went through a similar situation, when I rolled my jeep and broke my leg a few years ago.

1st day back at a computer since I posted the pics of my rolled 77. I will probably be parting it out when the insurance is settled, but I haven't even heard from my adjuster yet so that may be a while.

And yes, the mud terrain tires were probably partly to blame as the guy in front of me in an escalade passed a car with no problems - different tires. I was doing about 100, and the road seemed ice free. Just some bad luck I guess.

Oh that is sad. I am glad you are OK. I got a broken colar-bone when my 1980 FJ 40 got totalled in 88.

Two words of advise: never take the insurance companies first offer and if unsatisfied you have the right to have an independent fair market value appraisal done.

That's not dead brotha, that's the base for a sweet new build up! Strip the body off and put a new steel body on there from Paul down in SA. Make it an FJ43 or something cool.

On the other note, glad you are okay. Please tell me they pulled the driver's door off to get you out and it didin't fly off!

I drove from Calgary to FSJ yesterday on really crappy roads in my 77. That could just have easily happened to me. Fortunately the only thing I hit was a freezer box. Thank goodness for the ARB bumper.

Heal quickly. Good luck dealing with the insurance company and have fun shopping for a replacement.

you might be better off getting the appraisal first while waiting for your adjuster to come around. I used to advise my clients to do that when I was a broker.
