Today i changed the PHH and the other hoses on dads 80. Ive done this same service a dozen times now. I changed the throttle body gasket, and the hoses under the throttle body. Changed the valve cover gasket and grommets.

I did nothing to the distributor or plugs or plug wires. I only removed the plug wires while changing the valve cover gasket. I did accidentally forgot to hook up the exhaust thing that connects to the air breather, but i immediately hooked it up as soon as i started the truck and realized it was off.

This thing ran AMAZING before i changed the hoses and the tb gasket. Now it has a dead miss?

Any ideas, its a 9/94 FZJ80.

Thanks in advance, i have no idea what i coulda done wrong.

When you removed the heater hose from under the TB, did any of the coolant spill onto the injectors :hmm:

There's an injector right under that hose and it usually gets drenched anytime you pull the hose

Might want to check the connection and blow it out with compressed air :meh:

no coolant that i know of, i pulled it loose from the bottom side first. Ill double check it tommorow morning. Its sittin at the shop now.

As stupid as this may sound, i think that PAIR valve thing went bad. Its making all kinds of weird noises that it wasnt making before i left the hose off of it and started the truck. I dont know how that would cause the truck to run bad tho.

The injector thing makes sense, any other connectors or anything under there that coulda come loose. I dont remember anything. I did try to start it without hooking up the air flow sensor, but ive done that before and it didnt cause any ill side effects once hooked up.

Thanks in advance,

I don't think it's related to the PAIR valve, that damn thing sometimes makes the weirdest noises. How old are your plug wires? You might just have a bad one or the wire's just not on a plug. That would be where I'd start. Old plug wires can sometimes go bad when flexed during maintenance.

IIRC, it's not unheard of to bust the coolant temp sensor connector when doing the PHH. That would make it run a little "off", probably not a constant "miss" though.

If the spark plug wires are original, manipulating them might have been enough to put them over the edge.

If you manipulated the airbox to throttle body hose, it may have cracked. Pretty common problem, and will run like crap until replaced.

I would check this first. Happened to me while doing the same sort of job. Didn't see the crack because it was on the underside of the hose.

Fixed it. The po had broken several plugs on the engine that i noticed. I didnt notice that they had broken an injector plug and i musta moved it when taking the throtle body off. I plugged it back in and "glued" it with some toyota FIPG.

Thanks for the help.

Very nice. Glad it worked out !
