Newbie here - just got the truck on Friday. Mine came equiped with daytime running lights and I was wondering if anyone knows how to defeat them? I have no problem with them on the road, but it seems a little strange for trailing.

Thanks in advance.

there is a connector just behind your driverside front headlamp. It will take some small hands, but if you can separate the two parts of the harness, it deactivates DRLs. I simply unplugged it enough to disengage it, then left it still "plugged together". Then I wrapped it with elec tape to keep mud/water out of it.

I switched them at the relay. There is a thread with the directions by SwissArmySuv: turn the DRL's OFF! - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

I installed driving lights and fog lights (future) switches in the blanks to the left of the steering column.

You'll find the FJ is really easy to take apart and work on.

Have fun!

One click on the ebrake defeats them too when you start the truck.

Dave,

Kind of off topic but you're going to like your truck alot.

You'll also find there are alot of fine folks on this forum that will be very helpful.

Although I'd watch out for the guys running the Oregon mudholes in their skivvies! :D

Welcome.

Thanks for the help guys - I tried the parking brake trick - works just fine. The cite to the other forum page was very helpful as well - especially the pics. It seems the addition of a relay would be the most elegant solution. I will have to think about trying that.
