Icon LED on dash

Just got curious after looking at a TLC Icon and noting that they put a single white LED on the dash knobs. I typically like to keep things original and highly doubt I'd get rid of the green lens on the dash light....but I was wondering:

Has anyone out there ripped out the original dash light with the green lens and installed a white LED to shine on the dash? If so, how did it turn out? Can you post a pic?

Here are some pics of where the bulb is (should be) for the heater control bulb. I also ordered this today as well.

Thanks for posting the pic.....looks like I may be out of luck...I checked, and I see no VENT>HEAT>DEFROST knob light on mine. I think it may have been removed to make room for a dual battery switch. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement housing/bulb for this light? I checked Spector and CCOT, but couldn't zero in on a part.

I also just listed both of these lights Saturday on Ebay with NR, $0.99 starting bid auctions. I just installed the heater control light in mine and it's pretty cool to have. I have a dash pad cover so I still need to get my dash control light installed but I'm loving the little extra bit of cab light as I always drive home from work in the dark during the winter. It also helps you find your coffee, your cell phone, etc. :)

What operates the lights?

On my 78 FJ40 it is the main light knob pull on the left side of the dash. Meaning when you turn on the parking lights (one click back) or the full head lights (two clicks back) the interior lights come on which in my rig include the dash instrument lights, the heater box light and now to much excitement the dash knob under dash light.

BTW: I installed an LED in there and with the green filter it looks great!

FYI, Did you also know your headlight switch should light up. There's a bulb inside that comes on when you pull them on. I owned my first FJ40 nearly 20 years before I found it out.

Yes, I love that little light in there (such a nice touch). I owned my for 1 year before I realized it to. I also replaced this with the little LED from superbrightLED.

Just my personal preference on the heater control box; if you order one from superbrightLED get the warm white so it isn't completly bright and take over the whole interior.

Here is the best link I can find. Having trouble finding a picture on file anywhere on google or on mud.

It is probably going to be best just to take yours apart to see it. Does your headlight knob have a clear plastic lense on the front or is it like the other knobs that just are all rubber with white painted letters? If you see the clear lense type thing it should have a bulb back there. It is a tiny bulb by the way.

Found this out for the first time myself in Sept. We drove it at night and my son says " Hey the light switch is blue " Very cool feature.
