@Living in the Past

i recall seeing a separate switch that you rotate ... like the headlight switch but is just an on/off switch

But it could very well be the headlight switch ... I'll need to check tomorrow... files at work

Is this what you recall, the one marked "Room?"

It's on a 45LV in New Zealand (FJ45LV in New Zealand), which is certainly not representative of most any map light switch we'd see in the U.S. But very cool nonetheless!

Hi, I tried and Google Darth Vader light but couldn't find anything related to LC.
I'm still very curious what is it, do you have a picture of the product? Thanks.

I might be removing the dash pad retainer and use the Vader light in the wire harness opening. It's sitting here for now.

This is the Darth Vader Light named because it looks very roughly like Darth Vaders helmut.
Mounted in the dash to the right of the glove box or under the edge of the dash on FJ40's

Here is the OEM switch on the left and a Toyota Fork Lift switch on the right. I bought the Fork Lift light (heavy metal gray box with a light) and switch off E-Bay a few years ago.

The one on the right was used on earlier FJ40s as well as forklifts. My 68 has this style. Next time I'm around my 10/69 70 model I'll check to see which style it has.

I have never purchased or harvested forklift parts, so I can confirm both types are FJ40 IMG_1063.JPG

My 1970 [and replacement 1974 cab] both have the hole under the dash where the sheetmetal folds under for what I believe is exactly this.

Should be a few switches still floating around. I had a ton of reproductions made. Still have a ton. Only thing was the trim ring wasn't the same.

I would love if someone would reproduce the vador light. I'd even take a printed one and use a LED.

@Trollhole I gave up trying to find a Vader light and went with a $15 Indian Motorcycle light that looks similar and functions the same as the original Vader light. I also switched it to LED, as we did with all our lights.

That's a really cool alternative. Thanks for posting that.

North American market got a padded dash on the top of the dash as well as across the bottom. The bottom padded dash closed under a little bit and we no longer had a place to the Darth Vader light under the dash. Very possible you still had the place to mount one depending on market.

my 45LV has the darth vader light but no way to turn it on. the extra hole(which is very small) is now used for a push pull fog light switch(untill I make a mount to mount the OEM fog light switch under the dash

Well it's a good thing you don't have a switch to turn it on. The cover is facing the wrong way, and you'd blind yourself. :p

I was playing with it.....it rotates 360 degs.....but maybe its not suppose to?

@Landpimp

Just looked into this because of my previous post... see pic above

The switch for the LV called the 'room lamp switch' is a rotating switch ... a one click to the right switch ... like the headlight switch rotates

The owners manual for 64' says it would be in the hole to the right of the choke... where your throttle is... or maybe the empty hole that you now have the fog switch

I see that.....chances of finding one.......not good I suspect

I need to open up the owners manual again......its been way too long ;)

well I wont turn it again ;)

Think you misunderstood. At the base of the light i a piece of spring metal. the hood has a ridge at the base. While will snap off if you put it at angle it will snap back on not snap as in break. Thought a good picture was already posted in this thread. I could always take picture, I believe I have one or two here somewhere.
