My D light has been out since i purchased the vehicle. I know taking the lower panel off is easy, but i think the upper panel is not so simple. I'll give it a shot.

I just replaced all the bulbs start from Defroster button, antenna button & all the dash interior bulbs (Dash-P D N 2 L & shifter) the whole thing come in tiny small bulbs, took the whole day from morning til sunset to do all.
I Wish i can replaced them all with George LEDs bulbs... but too bad nothing available.. www.taskled.com

When I bought my '98 UZJ100, the D light was burned out and I had it replaced at the dealer on 9/11/01. I was at the dealer when I saw the second plane hit the tower while in the waiting room.

I sold the truck to a relative and bought a '93 FZJ80 and guess what? The D light was burned out when I bought it.

I just ignore it for now.

Mine was out on my 97. Before you tear into the dash, give it a good open handed smack on the clear gauge face panel. Mine came right on and hasn't gone out since. I'm curious to see if it works for anyone else. ;p

You're not the only person, I've heard others give the same advice.

Well, since this thread was revived, I'll jump in. Is that true that there aren't any LED options for replacement? To bad. That would be a great idea. I was wondering (and hoping for) the same thing.

Ummm, wonder if it's the same bulb my Camry burned out. Your guys couldn't find the bulb on computer so I picked up a two-pack of something close at Radio Shack for $2. Dim, but at least it's lit.

Evidently you talked to the wrong person...................

They do Ok but they aint me.........:D

I have TRIED fo years to train people to have that 6th sense or how to, as I like to describe it, "think like a lost part" but that is something that can not be learned, it has to be there in the first place.

Wacking worked on the 97 cruiser and the 95 camry for me thus far. DNA to the 89 or 73 ;p

Does the ESC botton have a light?
How about the dimmer and mirror controls?
Thanks

loquito,
I don't think the dimmer or mirror controls have a light, at least mine doesn't. Don't know about the ESC (not sure what that is??).

Thanks tusk 74, I didn't think so, And I meant to say ECT not esc.

I was happy to read that you were not giving up the 91. :flipoff2:

I know this thread stopped 7 months ago but this shows how useful this stuff is. My D light was out as well. I thought "Yeah right, wack it and it comes back on" Well I wacked it and dang if it didn't come back on. It's about half as bright as the others but it's on. I had to wack it and the dash above it about 5 times, but presto. At least now, I can concentrate on the looooong list of other PM and mods I want to do. Thanks guys....

I guess teh D light goes out on all cruisers, mine hasn't been on for over a year. Oh well I have other stuff to worry about. The list keeps growing as I write this.

My "D" light's been off so long that I'm used to it being off now. I actaully prefer it that way. If any of the other lights go off...R N L 2, I'll dig in there and fix them all...but as of now, a dark "D" is fine with me.

As for those who WHACK the dash to "fix" the light that's off...do you guys think that you might be jarring something else loose?

With your jumbo arm and palm, it WILL, Doug!

Mine burned out a few months ago as well. Certainly whacking did not work for me (on the instrument cluster that is!) Practiced on changing out the "D" light on an Acura a few weeks ago with ease - I'll do it on the cruiser once I get the shopping list compiled for Cdan :)

As I recall it was not all that PITA, I was working near the area when I remembered the D light was out and was able to get to it without much of a problem. I did not have a replacement on hand, so I just swapped it with the L light which gets a lot less use in my truck.

DANG! I lost my "D" yesterday, and now I can barely function. The rig is barely driveable now.

Dan, if you see this and haven't shipped my other stuff, please throw one in and add it to my tab. Otherwise I don't have the heart to call you for a $2 part. I know I'm a PITA, but even I have my limits.

I work in software & systems, and we'll sometimes have some incredibly bizarre things start happening. Some very smart guys will just scratch their heads. Some other guys will stare at the ceiling for 3 minutes, and then suddenly proclaim "I know what it is!"

You gotta love that second type of guy.

Well, I'm pissed, mine just started working the other day  I like not having un-needed lights shining in my face! ;p
