Fawkin cool if you ask me. Beautiful work!!

I had a 2001 Hilux double cab with turbo diesel and 5 speed when I lived in Brazil. I'm not sure if it was the same motor as the 1KZTE but close. I consistently got 30mpg when I went on road trips.

Yup a double cab....And at that time I had an 01 Tacoma Double Cab auto here stateside with a TRD supercharger and headers. I would pick the turboed 4 cyl. diesel any day of the week over the supercharged 3.4 gasser which gave me 18-19mpg at best

thanks,
i am still trying to understand the difference between the diesel in a cruiser and the diesel in the pickup.
the 2LT gets about 26 mpg Can on a good day. (4.9 diffs and the 71 series is about 500 lbs lighter than the 78)
most 2LTE engiens gets about 25 mpg Can (there have been a couple reports of 30+)(4.9 diffs)
the 2.8 in the pickups sucks both fuel and power. (not sure the diffs but the weight should be the same as your trucks)

there is a weight difference, true. and i know the Blizzard i sold got very nice fuel milage (2LT) but it had 4.1 factory and is about 1000 lbs lighter than the Land Cruiser.

there is also the elevation difference...

<not arguing, trying to get my head around the difference>

Side Note.

Here in Panamá 3L are highly apreciated engines .. more than any 2L-T or TE .. and are pretty fast .. ( well maybe not fast but good engines )

Actually all buddyes that have 2L-T engines are searching for 3L to make a swap.
