Here's a 1994 ext cab 4x4 that we are taking from a 4 cylinder 5-speed to a turbo diesel 4 cylinder automatic. Plus we are adding a second factory battery tray in order to accomodate the 24v starting system. If interested I can keep you guys up to date. We are in the process of adding a live shopcam that you can watch during business hours from our website.

25-30 mpg US?
that i would have to see to believe...35 mpg US!! someone is smoking something real good..

no problem, Pepsi challenge it is...

so do i have to come down there or are you coming up here? you realise of course that if i have to come down there i will be hanging at the shop for a couple / few days...
;^)

I'll be finishing another conversion next week. The customer is picking it up Feb. 12th. You could fly in on the 9th, then fly back say on the 10th. The only problem is the drive. I've made at least 460 miles on a tank of diesel few times. That equates to approx. 31.7 mpg. Junction is about 250 miles away. So we could take a drive out to Junction then head back. We'd have to make a day out of it. What do I win if it achieves that mileage? That's the biggest problem with doing what I do, shop loafers are all over the place. This is ultimately why I had to hire guys. Between answering phones, talking to walk-ins, general gabbing I never got anything done. Whattda ya say? Southwest has some pretty cheap tickets this time of year. i can pick you up at the airport. -Todd

LOL!!
i guess i would owe you supper and confirmation that i actually saw such milage returns with my own eyes...

i can say i have never driven a KZ but i have driven almost every other diesel Toyota makes and a small engine like that returning 35 mpg US
9close to 42 Canadian MPG) just sounds seriously fabricated... kind of the type of exagerated BS a couple guys will shoot back and for over the campfire.

tell you what though, if i get you to do a conversion for me and if it doesn't return 38 CAN MPG then i get the conversion done for free (31.7 US mpg).. agreed?

Lol! You buy the parts? Obviously, I dont go around advertising that they get 35mpg. Notice I said "as high as 35mpg". It greatly depends on how you drive it, maintenance, timing, etc. That said, I personally have achieved over 30 myself. If you're driving around town boosting every chance you get I'd be surprised if you got 20. These are small pickups with computer controlled diesels. The GVW is 1,000 over the VW tdi that gets 50+ mpg. There's a guy over at toyotadiesel.com named KX250rider that I've known for years through the forum. He regularly gets 40-45mpg in his 2wd diesel truck. And he's not the only one. These arent the heavy chassis like the cruiser.

welcome, i am sure we will learn plenty from your participation.
I, for one admire good workmanship.
cheers and peace

I'm not buying it either.
I've gone as high as 13 MPG with a 1KZ-TE 90 series
Seriously, anything below 25 in a 4x4 can not be real world driving, more like an economy record run driving.
I'm building a 2WD hilux as we speak, I'm tired of the 22MPG LJ70 :ban:
