Hellz yeah. and old school is still cool!:hillbilly:

LOL, you can make it work Deny! Get that thing going!

When do you want to do the front/red end thing??? Any time is good for me, I'm tearing my truck apart in the next couple of weeks.

Dang, $6-7k for the body, I have the 60 with a damaged roof, I have the HZ, H55, I have the dash (RHD) and it will take me more than $6k in time/effort to make the 60 into a pickup. Hmmm, I think I'll be calling - today. Talk to you soon. Bob

Sounds like fun Bob, wish I were closer and could help with your build. Been awhile since I had a project and feel the urge to build something.

Good luck with this project.....

Rob

It's almost there!!!

We have been working on this project for the past few weekends and quite a few late nights. It has all come together nicely and actually rather quickly. It's nice working with new sheet metal.

Here are some poser shots taken outside the shop. I think it came out pretty sweet. I have a few more accessories to add and it will be completely done.

Let me know what you all think.

Awesome! Will you be lining the bed, or are there no plans to haul much that could scratch up the metal? Approve of the white and red paint scheme, though I'd prefer other wheels.

Thanks!!! I will be lining the bed soon. I just have not had a chance to do it yet.

MRW gave me a pretty good deal on the bead locks so I decided to go with them. It gives it that "industrial look"

A couple of question from someone about to undertake a similar build.

1. Did you go with the 62 series ARB bumper or one specifically for the 79 series? A 62 series one will fit correct as the frame is a 62.

2. Could the 62 series gas tank be retained, though maybe with a custom filler hose? If not, does Proffitt's have tanks that will fit?

3. Can you give us some pictures of the 75 series dash installed? How well did the 75 series dash fit?

4. Did you use 75 series seats? I assume any seat would be an easy install. I have the donor 62 seats, but I like those sold by IPOR...

5. How is the flex or ride with the 75 series rear leafs?

Thanks...

It is a 60 series ARB bullbar. It looks pretty good but the 79 would look better. But.... the 79 bar would have to be modified to fit the 62 frame

2. Could the 62 series gas tank be retained, though maybe with a custom filler hose? If not, does Proffitt's have tanks that will fit?

It may fit with some modification. I used the factory 75 series gas tank for the front. I used a FJ40 auxiliary for the rear tank. The 60 series tank sits above the frame rails and does not clearance the bed to frame very well. There are other tanks that might be able to be used. Or you might be able to source a 75 front tank.

3. Can you give us some pictures of the 75 series dash installed? How well did the 75 series dash fit?

75 series dash fits like OEM......perfect.

4. Did you use 75 series seats? I assume any seat would be an easy install. I have the donor 62 seats, but I like those sold by IPOR...

The 75 seats ALMOST fit. The front mounts are the same but the rear seat mounts are about 4" too short.....same as the 75 to a 79. You could drill new holes for the 75 seats or make some kind of bracket. About any type of seat can be made to fit. We are putting BMW seats in one for a customer......not quite yet, Brian (since I know you a reading this!)

5. How is the flex or ride with the 75 series rear leafs?

Flex is not too bad. This is not much of a rock truck for me. I will use it for exploring mainly. Flex is not on my top priority list. The 79 springs ride pretty good. This truck is a little heavier than my old 75 so the ride is pretty good.

Thanks...

Your welcome. Keep in touch and feel free to contact us for more questions.

AND......DONE!

Now with roof top tent and fridge!

Now to go home and load up for a rather large adventure.

Very nice looking truck...

Nice to see that the 75 series dash fits. You have any more... You wouldn't throw one in as a complimentary gift with my body by any chance??? With my build I think I'll try to paint/dye the door panels to match the gray dash or paint the dash and panels black so they all match.

I'll definitely take a pair of 75 rear springs. Yeah, I'm not looking for a lot of flex either. This is not what I'll be building it for. It is a pick-up and I want load carrying ability.

I can't wait to start my build. The donor 62 will arrive Monday or Tuesday then I'll be calling you for the body mounting kit and frame extension pieces...

Nice work this truck worked out looking great,
did you end up using 79 series rear springs ? I've read 75 rears but there same as 60 ay?

These are in fact, 79 series springs. 75 springs are a little shorter than a 79 spring and a bit different than a 60 spring. The 79 springs and 75 springs share the same bushings but are not the same.

MSGGrunt: Sorry, we don't have any extra dashes at the moment. I may have a lead on some so keep in touch. You might also be able to track one down. They are out there, they just take a little digging to find.

dash, new, Dave at Japan 4X4

observations:
i am surprised at how nice this looks, from the pics it looks like a factory truck.
bead locks, what ever turns your crank.
tent and mount, meh.
bumper, meh.
but as a whole package? WOW! nice.

<i always said the new 79 body style was a 60 looking truck, this is proof>

nice job, would love to see it in person. i think you are on to a attractive package that will sell well in NA.

congrats.

I followed the thread closely and wanted to give props for a clean truck that looks original!

bump to ya!
