I get the feeling there's a bunch of us on here.

What agency are you (or were you) with or retired from?

(Me - retired SFPD, now with the Feds.)

I started my law enforcement career at age 36. It all depends on the departments in your area and the laws of your state.

I'm currently at a University P.D. but have been with a small city PD here in Houston.

A good portion of the agencies have since dropped their maximum age requirement. Too many discrimination lawsuits.

Matter of fact, a lot of retired types from other jobs (teachers, engineers, civil service, techies, etc.) go on to become cops as their second career.

In Albuquerque a 43 year old might not be the oldest in a cadet class. Lots of 40 year old military retirees join. Do it quick though, you're not young forever.

I sit in now and then on patrol with the poontang police.

Does that count? I help to monitor the quality of poontang being distributed in America today.

You bet. Watchin' the poontang is a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.
