Well after much reading and many questions I'm going to purchase an 80 with diff locks. I think I might rip out the carpet and just rhino line it from the start. I am going to have to buy it unseen--just pics. Hopefully I can have a dealer do a compression check and such. Right now it does look to be a buyers market.

Observations:
Ebay usually fetches a higher price
May be able to get a better deal on cars.com or traderonline.com

I'm looking for one that has around 100k give or take with the lockers--do you think these prices are acceptable from a private party?

1993--$6,000
1994--$7,000--$7,500
1995--$7500--$8500
96/97---$8500--$11,500

two things...

**ebay is a sellers paradise. it's a nearly perfect market in the sense that it is efficient and timely and has a large number of prospective buyers.

**you couldn't get my '94 with lockers out of my hands for $7,XXX. i paid $15K two winters ago from a yota dealer and didn't get the feeling that i was being poked too hard (maybe a grand or so, but it was the winter and it had lockers). maybe the market has really puked, but i think that the prices you've listed are going to be attached to some real dogged out p.o.s.'s

best of luck,
aaron

The ranges you post appear to be a bit optimistic to me for the mileage range you mention. Maybe for vehicles with 150+.

Prices you mentioned: not in Norcal. Bought mine in May w/ 67K, lockers, no craptory roof rack for $18K. This was a decent deal based on research on autotrader and cars.com. I'd say 96-97 up here w/ 100K and lockers would go for ~15K.

yup, no way around here!
In the PRK, a 97 with lockers and 100K will indeed go for around $15K in decent shape, IMO.

From what I've seen lately they seem to be going down. BTW - There's a 93 w/lockers 150k miles for sale in my area for $9950. It's been on the lot for 2 months. I imagine it could be purchased for under $8k.

I got mine in Santa Fe N.M. a year ago for 11,500. It is a 95 with lockers.

Me thinks those prices are unrealistic to say the least.

Agreed that your ranges appear a little too optimistic.. I purchased a '97 80 in Chicago last year with 95k for 12.5k... Clean body, diff locks, decent interior, etc...

Here is an example---there is a red 95 at a car dealer with 115k--for $9700--the car dealer wants to make money so they probably paid $7,000.......

None of us are saying that something like that doesn't look like a really good deal. :bounce: Its just that it sounds to good to be true and makes any dedicated cruiserhead wonder whats wrong with it? and how many  's is it going to take to fix. Still best of luck.

I know that here in Northern CA that those prices are low. I paid 13k last year for my 96 with lockers and 113k miles and it was a screaming deal. Only reason that I was able to get that good of a price was the original owner leased since new, bought it out of the lease and then got in financial trouble and turned it back over to the credit union.

My part of Texas............Clean 96/97 with about 100K miles and lockers will fetch 13,500 to 15,000

My analysis is a bit different:
93-94 7-9500 depending upon condition more than miles almost all are 150k plus now
95 9-11,000 Miles seem to be 130k plus
96-97 12-18,000 miles really make a difference in price here. The low mileage ones seem to fetch a lot more than the high mileage ones. 100k seems to be a big mark as does 80k.
Lockers do not seem to have an effect on price on any year in my experience.

In Idaho, Cruisers fetch more than a lot of these prices but ours are all made of gold.

My 93 had 230,000, no lockers and a few obvious problems.

I flew to Minnesota and picked it up for $6000 drove it to W. Texas and could of sold it 3 times the first week for ~$8000.

If I where you I would focus in OK city, I see better deals than mine there.

Or

In Garland, TX there's a 94 NO roof rack, no lockers, grey, leaking PS, w/134,000? for $7995.

Or

IMO I'm seeing better deals for 100's 98 - 99 some as low as $16,000.

Or

I'm seeing better deals on LX450 than the same year for LC's.

I paid $8000 on a 94(so so condition) no lockers w/158k miles on it. For me at least it was a good deal based on my research. This was in SoCal.

I'm in no hurry to pick one up--If the body has some bumps oh well. I figure if I get a 94-97 in fair cond. Right now I'm driving a company 2000 VW bug and it is fun but an accident would be my last one. So I have enough cash to pay $11k but I want a front bumper, the slee 2.5 inch lift package, winch, snorkel, 4 240 Light Force, CB/Antenna, rhino line the interior, tires, birfs repacked.......---I want a big heavy truck for everyday traffic and something to wheel with in the jungle 4x per month. Doesn't need to be pretty but reliable is key. The Labor is cheap here so I can buy the parts and get something like the head gasket replaced for $500 with a warranty. My other option is to get an FJ40 but I'd like something heavier for everyday driving.

By the way how tall is a an 80 with 33's and a 2.5" lift?

I second this, almost everyone who sells his/her truck don't know what lockers are, no way they know to ask for more, until some of us cruiserheads feed it to them.

Yeah, just looked at a '95 with 55K miles, "it has locker" the seller told me, until I drove 20 minutes to look at and found out that there is no locker.

well, sadly, most of the folks I called (almost all dealers and even private parties) when looking for my 80 had been made well aware of the desire for lockers by not-so-subtle cruiserheads. I had always tried to ask sort of in passing in the middle of the conversation so as not to tip them, but evidently lots of people ask first about the lockers. So dealers, at least, know. What impact that has on price, I'm not sure. They know so little about them that it's easy to tell them you don't care or they don't work properly (usually true the first try or 2), etc. Hard also to put a value on them things. For most "regular" people they are indeed worth nothing.

Hee's something a little more current from Northern California. I just checked on a LX 450 last week at a local automall. It's a 96 with lockers. 100,850 miles. Asking price was $15,792. I estimate you could negotiate a chunk off the "asking" price.

California prices seem a little higher than other states -- TX and FL seem to have lower prices...though I'd avoid a FL vehicle right about now...
