I was checking Torq masters web site for the price of there Aussie locker and they list the ring gear size as 8.875". Randy's ring and pinion lists it at 9.5" which is what I thought it was. Whats up with torq masters? Which is right? Thanks. Mark:beer:

the guys on mud ...

told me that that set of numbers if the same gear. for some reason, the measure point is different, or at least variable enough for the different numbers. i am changing my ratio, and all the shops that i called told me the same info...the 8.8~~ is the same as the 9.5. go figure. i am going ARB Lockers and 4.88, but all the parts guys said my ring gear should be 9.5. there was some caution over my year and bolts versus rivets holding on the ring gear. keep waiting, one of the guys will have an answer soon enough.:)

Yeah i figured it had to be a measuring discrepancy. I also figured this would be a slam dunk and someone would of set me straight by now!

I am shocked by the lack of info on this subject. Thought there would be some insight on torq masters apparent snafu. Anybody? Done some research and it seems to me that torq masters have a bum measuring tape. Let me know if you know something. Thanks. Mark

I've seen the same 8.875" dim. for the typ. low pinion LC ring gear on different axle charts. Then, I was hearing folks say they are 9.5". THEY ARE NOT 9.5" DIA. Put a tape or calipers on one & the measurement will show 9 1/4".

Rivets holding on a ring gear?

And you are really going to trust these folks to get you the correct parts?

04/72 and earlier ring gears were threaded, and did not use a bolt and nut design like the 05/72 and later ring gears. So, in order to install your 4:88 ring and pinion gear sets on ARB air lockers, you are going to need a pair of ring gear bolt kits.

What differential gear vendor are you dealing with?

I was looking through some old Toyota trails magazines and they listed the ring gear at 8 3/4. Its the September-October issue, where they compare the "Woody 40HD" front axle to a junkyard dana sixty. Whats going on here?
