Cruiser riddle (1 Viewer)

What's black, and rusted?
Has 4 screws.
Looks like an access panel.
And appears to serve no real purpose.

Seriously, any of you cruiser wizards know the purpose of the access panel just in front of the oil pan, underneath the crank pulley? Just one of those things I've been wondering. It's kinda cool, but not real usefull. Maybey it is and I just haven't had to use it yet. I still have the cover just took it off to take the pic and clean up a little.

I'll trust Poser, but I can't say I have seen one of those before............except on my 100 series to get to the oil filter
