Added, do they do full service and restorations?
Yes, both
There used to be a kid in Longmont who was really good with Toyota trucks. His name was James and he had a stint running his own business maybe 10-15 years ago when he was maybe 20-30 years old. He ran the shop (James' Auto maybe?) and his mom (Diane?) ran the phones. He was also involved with the ratty Mazda/Honda tuner kid scene up there. Knew what he was doing, was very thorough, preferred OEM parts, had great pricing, and good follow through. Did a great full rebuild on my uncle's 4Runner's 22R back then and saved my neck on a 94 4Runner I had that another shop messed up. My uncle's early 2nd gen Runner has been on the road as a daily driver ever since, still going strong.

I wonder if he's still around. Does that ring any bells?
I haven't seen anything, there's no James Auto that I know of. I might have to stop and talk to one of the fellow Cruiser guys in town and see.

Hey all!
Does anyone know of a good LC mechanic in northern IL or southern WI? I went through the thread but it seems like most of the ones listed are not around anymore. Apologies if I missed one.

Trying to swap a replacement 2F and H55 into my 87 FJ60.

Thanks in advance!

Very Respectfully,
RC

If you use the map version of the list found here you will see that Rogers Automotive is in that area. Click on the icond and you will get full details. The data is from the FJ60 gsheet. The map may not be uptodate all the time.

Beau Parker at Safari Classics in Hot Springs Arkansas specializes in Landcruisers. Very versed on 60 Series. Does great work. Very honest.

Couple updates on Colorado shops. Maybe mentioned before in 28 pages? Probably worth updating the first post if the guy is still around.

Robbie Antonson, Adventure Offroad is no longer I. Colorado. Has moved to Arizona. Phone number still goes through to him and he was helpful in getting me pointed in the right direction to get parts locally but he’s not a Colorado based business any longer.

303-884-7813 phone number
303-665-0128 fax number
email: powderpig@q.com
Mobile and garage based business for Toyota trucks and SUV's

Tims Toy Shop - does not seem to be in business or has a new phone number. This phone number is disconnected.

I do not have specifics. I only talked to him briefly as it was morning and him being west of me made my call outside of business hours. It sounded like he still operates the same business simply in a new location. He was super helpful and did mention he’s tried previously to get his listing moved to Arizona. Hopefully a local can chat him up for some work.

There’s a mechanic on the list that I would not recommend as a specific Land Cruiser mechanic: Dave Mays automotive in Gainesville. They’re nice enough guys but the one who knew the most about “these trucks” didn’t really know anything about them. He said the grease squirting out from my knuckles was a good thing because that’s what keeps it from rusting. In my time in Gainesville I couldn’t find any mechanic shop that gave me the impression that they knew anything specific about 40 and 60 series trucks. When I was moving back to Orlando I had to have my truck towed down to @cruisermatt to make it driveable again.

The best way to address this is through google reviews. I highly recommend everybody write google reviews and check google and other review sources before using a mechanic. This is a list of mechanics who will work on them not an endorsement of the mechanics. I've added a popup disclosure to the spread sheet. Hopefully it won't cause problems with popup blockers etc.

Here is the updated FJ60 Mechanics gsheet.
If anybody has problems with the popup let me know. I'll try something else.

Light to medium maintenance. Marty is the Toyota specialist in the shop. He drives a yota and is from Utah. Knows his stuff. Replaced all my cruiser AC. Scheduled back for wiring work on electric fan. Cool shop on the corner. $140 an hour labor…

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the website for Over the Hill 4x4 in Portland, Oregon, no longer works. I just called the number to see if they still existed and the guy said the business closed but he's thinking about starting it up again. It's line 188 in the google sheet. Thanks so much for putting this list together!
