Minutes per hill could work.

My next project is getting more storage in the 40... I could barely carry a cooler and recovery gear..

The propane bottles take up most of the space, so I wanted come up with a removable rack..

A benefit for all the Rzr and UTVs, is aftermarket support for their roll bars... I found these mounts that looked secure enough to hold a rack.. 4 bolts with lock nuts...

Then working with the cage.. its close enough!!

I sketched up a design and sent it over to Lanbro Sheet Metal....Vince takes all jobs small and big...

Since I'll be moving the rack when I need to change the propane bottles, I wanted it aluminum...

Fit like a glove!!

Feels strong but I'm gonna need some bracing to make sure it can handle the weight and trails...

You are gonna need a way to refill those bottles without moving the rack.

Looks good 👍

Since I've started to get a handle on these 8274s, I decided to make some upgrades to my winch...

I picked up a new motor, it's 6 hp and rated as a 10,000 lbs pull for the M8274.

I also was able to find an original 1970s plug. They used the metal plugs before switching to the plastic ones in the 1980s.

A little old school with new school:

I also swapped out the solenoids and moved the contactor under the hood. Should be better protected from rocks/trees and the weather in general.

Smart upgrades. I'm gonna rip off the contactor relocation idea.

Been a minute since I posted...

Truck has been running good, ran awesome at GSMTR...

I have a rubbing issue on the rear driver side, might be a leaky ORI or just needed a charge up.. time will tell if I need to rebuild it

I have been also been getting a handle on these ORI struts and pressures.. they are very cool, I've been playing with the spring rates and getting a feel for how the truck acts..

Next add on is installing the ORI Level it Kit... it ties into the ORI struts and dynamically adjusts spring rates as the truck body rolls... plan is to get it installed by Mardi Krawl (assuming I can get it in-time)

A couple weeks ago I opened the garage and found the Cruiser lean kicking... one of the Ori Struts appeared to be leaking. It wouldn't hold a charge...

Pulled the main leaky bastard...

During the tear down I got a good lesson on pressure and oil... doesn't need much pressure to let you know it's there... I got sprayed with shock fluid which is some stanky stuff...

This is the inside of an Ori... the machine work is amazing!! Super tight and smooth...

Just needed new seals... the bearings and springs were all good... got it mounted and looks to be holding pressure now...

Documenting an issue with the 40... I had a problem where the truck would not grab any forward gears. Everything checked out - transmission, linkages, made sure TC was in-gear, but the truck would not go into any forward gears. However, oddly the truck would always grab reverse.

The truck acted like it was in neutral. No popping, rattling, or grinding. It just wouldn't grab any forward gears (while 2H or 4L), except it grabs Reverse.

The issue ended up being the transfer case. The input gear was sliding on the shaft. The bolt and spacer holding the input gear had backed out. When I removed the cover, the bolt fell into my lap.

Issue:

Here is the build up:

Spacer, bearing, and bolt. That bolt is what backed out.

This truck is rad! Is there a build thread from the previous owner? Would love to see more build details on the suspension and drivetrain.
Thanks!

There isn't another continuous build thread. This truck was put together through various owners...I traced the history and there are various posts from the owners on Pirate and Mud.

The summary is the restoration/build started on Pirate somewhere on the west coast (WA?) around 2006. It changed hands a couple times till it was sold to Sid in GA, and then I picked it up in 2019.

The Drivetrain is a 2f on propane with an Orion TC. The Transmission is kind of a Toyota UFO, it specs to a reverse pattern H41. 1st gear is 5x to 1 (super low). Here is a thread about it:

For the suspension, it was installed by a shop, M&M Off-road out of NC. If you look them up on Facebook, they posted pictures of this build in 2016.

Hope this helps!
