@mcgaskins I registered on the 7th. Now i need to decide if I do the Swell or Kokopelli for the first overnight run. i have not figured out where we are staying in Moab yet.

@Markuson @Rigger @ChowChilla @cruiserdan @BVCOTaco @Mendocino have you guys registered yet? Let's make sure we get more 200s there this year! @cruiseroutfit has already registered, so I know that's at least two 200s counting me and Kurt :D

Registered yesterday morning! Be my first CM! Was thinking about towing the 40 series out, but the camper will be towed instead. Still need to get a campsite. Was thinking the OK RV Park next to the event. Where is everyone else camping at?

OK is full. They were booked solid yesterday morning.

That's great! You'll have a really good time. It sounds like OK is full, but here is text from an excerpt of an email we sent out re:camping options:

If you want to be near the fun, here's where to stay.

Three Campgrounds
There are three good options for camping near Cruise Moab HQ. All of these option are very close, so take your pick. (See map below):

  1. Moab KOA Campground – about 0.6 miles from HQ (a 10-minute walk or a very short drive)
  2. OK RV Park – about 0.3 miles from HQ (you could easily walk over but you might choose to drive)
  3. Spanish Trail Racetrack Camping – right next to HQ (walking distance for sure)
The first two options are regular campgrounds near the event HQ. They have bathroom facilities, shade trees, grilles, etc. — all the amenities you would expect from a campground. If you want to camp at either of these, please contact them to make your reservations.

The third option (Spanish Trail Racetrack Camping) is primitive camping on the dirt racetrack right next to our event HQ. It’s walking distance. If you choose to camp here, keep in mind that there are no trees or other amenities. It may be very dusty, especially for people in tents. You will have access to the bathrooms at the Old Spanish Trail Arena, but they have only one shower for men and one shower for women. The upside is it’s inexpensive: only $25/night for RVs and $10/night for tents. And you’ll be super close to everything happening at Cruise Moab HQ.

Spanish Trail Racetrack camping is available through Cruise Moab. Earliest arrival is Sunday, April 28 and latest departure is Sunday, May 5 for a maximum of 7 nights. Reserve your spot now at Spanish Trail Racetrack Camping.

We decided to stay at Kane Creek again (a shady tree camp site). Personally, I think the KOA and the RV Park are ridiculously expensive for the value received. Given there is no HQ this year, everyone is all spread out across town. We'll see everyone on the trails and at the BBQ/raffle.

I think I'll either do long Kokopelli for the double overnight, or the Swell, but I'm not sure what trails to do on Friday and Saturday? What are the other Usual 200 suspects planning on doing? @mcgaskins @Markuson @indycole @cruiserdan etc?

I'm still completely stock and with the wife going back to school this year, its going to be tough... its unfortunately going to be a last min. decision with my scheduled

You can absolutely enjoy Moab in stock form.

A quick upgrade you can do in a very short bit of time=
Add AT tires and remove your side steps.
With those quickie changes, you’ll be able to run a ton of fun, scenic trails including slick rock.

Last minute registration won’t Work though bc it will fill up. On the other hand, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet up with folks for trail runs of your own. I’d happily do a couple non-crazy trails with you. Also...many people show up early to do their own trail runs.

Totally agree with Mark. I'd say at least half maybe more of the trails that we run during CM can be done in a stock 200 with decent tires. That said, registration is almost completely sold out already. Last I checked this morning, we had 179/200 spots taken in 24 hours after registration opened up. If you are interested in going, I'd register asap.

I spent the weekend in Moab scouting a new trail for Cruise Moab 2019 and had a blast. We'll be announcing the new trail and trail scheduling in the near future, so stay tuned!

Most of the trail looked like this, so it was a little work to lead it juggling the ipad, ham, inreach, camera/phone, and hot tea! GPS tracks were absolutely necessary as it was clear no one had been on this trail for a long time. Super fun weekend!

Matt, why did you edit out the hood of your non-Toyota vehicle?

Leave it to a Jeep to make fresh tracks :flipoff2:

(low hanging fruit, can't resist)

Hey Matt,

Looks like a great pre-run!

Were you camping at altitude? Or day tripping from town? I see an RTT... Either way...
Curious what temperatures you found there this time of year?

I don't know what you're talking about. :poof:

No camping on this trip. It was unseasonably cold, windy and snowy, and it would have been miserable to camp. I had to work a full day on Friday, so I actually flew into town and flew home. The flight on Sunday got canceled as a nasty storm rolled in and dropped 6" of snow in about one hour. It was a pretty crazy trip for weather, so I'm glad I had rented a big Airbnb for the whole crew. Side benefit is that this time of year all the accommodations are pretty cheap and the trails are empty.

This was the view from my last minute hotel Sunday night after learning I’d have to wait a day for the next flight. The following day it was snowing pretty hard again and that flight barely made it out. Definitely an anomaly of a winter for Moab.

Thx.
And ya...we all FROZE TO DEATH during a recent camp on a Mojave Road run in late Dec. Crazy cold like...dog water dish started freezing over almost immediately with bone-chilling wind at about 6800ft.

Air B&B FTW! :hillbilly:

Camping is one of my favorite activities, but when it's below freezing I don't love it. A hot shower, hot food, cold drinks, cards and movies with a bunch of buddies under one roof is a lot more enjoyable this time of year. We had a really nice place that averaged out to $57 a person for the entire weekend too, so that's pretty hard to beat!

Wow! That’s a great deal!
Hmmm...

Got an exciting update to share about CM19. For the first time ever, there will be a women driver only run!! Men are welcome to ride along as passengers, but all drivers must be women. The run will be Chicken Corners on Friday 5/3 which is super scenic and family friendly with a nice short hike at the end of the trail. My beautiful wife will be leading this run in a 200, and it would be awesome to see some better halves from the 200 crew representing. @Markuson @indycole @Mendocino I know you all have adventurous and capable women in your lives - can you float the idea by them? Looking forward to a super fun day!

I wish we could make this event but we already have too many other events planned prior and shortly after to able to squeeze another out of state trip in during that time. I do believe my other half has month-end close that week as well so it looks like we are definitely out. Maybe next year?!

Chicken Corners would be a good intro...
I’m likely be at CM solo again tho..

Too bad Ken Romer & family can’t make it this year.
His daughter kicks butt in her the Prado. The LC museum caretaker’s wife too...in her purple-bumpered 80 with those hammock-pole-mounts welded on!

They would have made a great lead/gunner combo.
Last year they drove Metal Masher and Poison Spider like champs.
