And still no pics or movies?
Hopefully coming soon! No time...
I did have a great time, but I was so busy I never did have a chance to get over and say hi to Ron.
Here's the thumbnail sketch:
Monday 4/29 - left Abq and drove up 550 through Durango, Silverton, Ouray, and eventually to Grand Junction. Lots of snow between Durango and Silverton. Spent the night in Grand Junction.
Tuesday 4/30 through Thursday 5/2 - Ran the Kokopelli Trail from just over the Colorado border to Moab, arriving Thursday evening about 8:00 PM. We had an expedition chef serving us dinner on Tuesday night and breakfast on Wednesday morning. Dinner was ribeyes on the grill, baked potatoes, salad, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Breakfast was french toast, sausage and OJ. I know it's hard to believe, but I'm not making this up. They took good care of us - the run was hosted by Book Cliff Cruisers out of Grand Junction and they had a subsidy from Rising Sun to feed us well those couple of meals.
The highlights of the trail were the run to "Top of the World" on Wednesday afternoon (off the trail about 7:45 PM), and then coming down Rose Garden Hill on Thursday. The trail leader broke out the Klondike ice cream bars from his trail frig after we were down.
I did run into Josh, Emma, and Liam at SlickRock Campground after the late day on the trail Thursday evening. Josh and Liam were in Cruiser Heaven. Liam couldn't believe all the "Daddy Trucks" everywhere! Emma was very good-natured about the whole thing. As my wife would say - it's a testosterone thing!
Friday 5/3 - Ran Metal Masher with a group that included Sarah (Mrs. CruiserDan). For those of you who haven't seen her new paint job, it's pretty sweet. The truck is beige with purple bumpers, sliders and springs. I'm trying to remember if I got pictures of her rig. We'll see. We had a fun time out there.
Saturday 5/4 - Ran Elephant Hill with about 10 trucks. I volunteered to be the Tail Gunner since somebody bailed out and I was the only one who had run the trail before (other than the leader). Had an absoultely great time. That is a lot of road miles to get to and from the trailhead, but that's one of my favorite trails on the planet. The scenery is just fantastic, and the trail is just difficult enough to keep your attention. I ended up doing a lot of spotting for the guys in the back of the group. Off the trail about 8:00 PM. Once I had a cell signal, got a call from Lurch about his truck, but wasn't much help, as he decided to wait until Monday and get a U-Haul. But I'm glad he's got the truck out of there and he should be on the way home (or there) by now.
Sunday 5/5 - Headed home. The Cruiser had almost 1,400 miles from the trip and is about to turn over 193,000 miles. No trouble whatsoever, other than filling up with gas every chance I had. Thanks again to Beowulf for the roof rack and gas cans. That was the only option for Kokopelli, but I wouldn't recommend it for improving fuel economy.
Pics to follow...
