New member and my first post.
I just bought 1980 HJ troopie. I'm having trouble cross referencing the Ryco R2423P filters (fuell). I made several trips to auto parts stores and spent a good portion of the day searching on the internet. I haven't found one that will work yet. Can anyone give me the numbers for a more reaadily available brand?
Thanks,Tim

Tim,
Where abouts are you located? Saw a nice troopie in Ventura county. Would that be yours?

Randy,
I live an hour south of Atlanta.

This what the filter looks like. It was only used in the motor manufactured from 1980 until October of 81. After that it had a screw on filter. In all my searches all I get is the numbers for the screw on types. This is a Ryco R2423P. Of course it is manufactured in AU and will take some time to get here if I can't find a cross reference for a US manufacturer.

Sorry Tim, I thought for sure that your question would have been answered in that thread.

Somebody here will know and post up the info your looking for I'm sure.

Good Luck,

Randy

If those filters are going to be hard to source I would ditch the old filter head and install a CAV 296 filter head with built in primer and water trap.
Replacement filters are available everywhere.
They are only $100 new and $6 a filter.
Ive been running one of these on my 1HZ for 18 months and it works fine

Thanks,
I have been leaning in that direction. That is what you would do on a boat for the first stage. I like the idea of a gas bowl. It is easy to look and see if you have trash or water. It is also easy to drain.

Have you changed out your oil filters also? I've read about commercial trucks where bypass filters are run and they rarely even change the oil?

I change my oil filter and oil at regular intervals approx every 5000klms.

I dont know much about commercial trucks except that some direct engine oil in small quantities through the fuel system.

I would rather trap all the crap in a filter and discard it at the recycling centre with my waste oil.
