Hi Kpecks, hope this finds you well and blessed, I am wondering if you could do me a huge favor, we have just purchased a 2006 LX 470, however, you are the only one I have found any trace of that is actively flat towing one or that has outfitted one to flat tow. So, my question is, 1) What do I need to do to prepare it to flat tow? 2) Is there anything mechanical I need to do to prevent damage, ie. drive disconnect, transmission cooler, etc..., 3) Specifically concerning the blue ox baseplate, did you use the one listed on their website for the lx470 up to 2004, or did you use an entirely different one (if so, how did you determine it was the right one)? Any information about how you prepared your 2006 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!View attachment 3446827
I flat towed my 2006 LX 470 for thousands of miles behind a 40 ft diesel pusher. The baseplate that says it goes up to 2004 fits the 2006 fine. No prep on the truck needed. Put the transfer case in neutral. I used the RVI brake system and a magnetic battery powered light bar so I didn’t need to do any wiring.
Happy to answer any other questions.

Hey Road Runner,

We flat towed our 100-series for probably about 15k miles. The motorhome is gone, but the 100-series is still ours. It still has the Blue Ox tow base plate on the front that has come in surprisingly handy if you ever need to tow the LC somewhere and have a second car, like dropping a car off at the airport for someone.

I've also still got the the RV-i brake which has been outstanding, and I wouldn't tow with anything else at this point. Also used a BlueOx tow-bar which was great. I also used the Blue Ox Diode kit to tie into the LED lights on the back of the LC.

I'll drop links to what I've used.

Blue Ox Tow Bar - BX7425 Avail Tow Bar (2.5" Receiver) - Blue Ox | Tow Bars - https://www.blueox.com/product/bx7425-avail-tow-bar/
Diode Kit - BX8848 Tail Light Wiring Kit, Diode - Blue Ox | Towing Accessories - https://www.blueox.com/product/bx8848-tail-light-wiring-kit-diode/
RV-i brake - RVibrake3 Portable Flat Towing Braking System - https://rvibrake.com/products/rvibrake3-flat-towing-braking-system

We also have a drop hitch to get everything lined up straight. But that is going to depend on what your RV is.

Let me know if you have any questions. We've loved towing the 100-series. We had another tow car prior to the LC, but it was a great upgrade switching to the LC.

Thank you for your response, I am slowly working on getting all the necessary gear to make my LX towable, but I really appreciate you taking the time to answer some of my questions, when I start the project, I may have more, thanks again for your help!

Hello Matt, hey, believe it or not, I just got the baseplate, it was on backorder for several months. I did have one question, about the wiring harness, were there any tricks to getting it to all work correctly or was it a straight up installation as what Blue Ox describes. (I just heard there could be some issues that need a work around). Thanks! gonna get started soon, can't wait... I'll let you know if I have any other questions...

Hey Road Runner,

Sorry to hear your baseplate was on backorder. Glad it finally arrived. For the wire harness, I ran the one set of wires inside the frame rail all the way to the back of the vehicle to power the taillights. A second wire runs into the inside drivers footwell to provide the emergency brake connection for the RVi Brake or other brake safety device. I also ran a separate 12v receptacle to the inside center console connected to my auxiliary battery so that the brake safety device pulls current from my 2nd battery and not my main battery. I understand in the LX an auxiliary battery setup is much harder given the location of the ACH reservoir.

Hopefully that answers your question. Good luck with the installation, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Matt
