My buddy Travis already had the middle of the lot cleared by previous owner but they left the fallen trees and some bucked up firewood.

Used the trackhoe to start a slash pile and clean up the clearing.

Cleared a driveway to get the truck and trailer backed into the lot. Travis couldn’t have been happier.

Next was digging 4 septic evaluation test holes. 2 on his lot and 2 on my lot. They required 5’ deep 24” wide and 4’ in length at the bottom with a stairway into them.

Found the lot corner markers and began marking property lines. The small road on the south side of the property my neighbor Justin has been using for himself. He’s a nice guy and was super bummed he didn’t buy the property.

Having fun on the mini digging one of my septic test holes. Had to dig four which took about a 1/2 hour each, even with a trackhoe. Spent 10 hours playing on it Saturday.

So excited about having a place in the mountains. Neighbor says expect 4’ of snow to be on the ground through the winter. Been -30F there and it can freeze an night any time of the year.

Saturday was about the most fun Travis and I have ever had. There’s just something so awesome about owning your own land. We both own our property.

After marking the lot I found the well is NOT on the property. The driller must have got the taxlot number on the well report wrong, or even drilled it on the wrong lot in 2012... this has happened before. It’s all good though, I would have paid $6500 for the lot anyhow, just thought the well was a total bonus.

Mapped my lot on paper last night.

Any chance the lot with the well on it is for sale? That would be ideal for you.

Stand those downed pines into a tepee. That would be an awesome shelter to use before you get a permanent structure built. Here is step by step wikihow. This Youtube shows the raising and securing for high wind.

Congratulations on your purchase.
It has been many years since I have been in that area but remember it as beautiful.
Traversed the lake a couple of times and it is quite a view.

Hope you got the property lines worked out 100%

I bought some property in the high desert years ago.
The realtor gave us a map with the property location and we went out to look at it.
Decided to buy it but was confused about the exact location so went to the realtor and asked him if he would come out and personally point out the property.
He acted put out but went down with us and actually stamped his foot on the ground and said that was the piece of dirt we was buying.

Later as my wife and I was hauling some materials to the property a neighbor a couple lots over came over and told us we should double check the property location.

They had bought their property about a year earlier and had started construction only to find the plot they bought was the one to the west next to them.

Turned out that was what we was about to do.

Went back to the realtor and it took some stern conversation but got it straightened out.

Lived there for the next ten years but for a long time after I got the house built I would get an onimus feeling someone was going to show up and tell me they owned the land I had built on.

Did you get a title policy on the land when you bought it? The two places I've bought land (New Mexico and Texas), both title companies required an actual survey of the properties before I could close on them. The seller paid for it in both cases. But the title policy should cover you for things like that, if you have one.

Do you own it out right?
That is the best feeling.
We didn't realize it when we bought our property in the desert but the people we bought from was making payments to another person that was making payments and memory says it was five different people down the line.
We was planning on paying it off any way but when we found out that bit of information we hurried up and did what was called a reconveyance so everyone got their little bit and the title was free and clear and ours.
Piss a few people off as it messed up their projected income tax.

Are you planning to move there permanent or just a weekend retreat?
What kind of house are you planning to build?

I got turned on to domes.
They are sturdy and efficient to heat and cool.

Yes I own it. The more I’m talking to the county the simpler I want to make it. Klamath County won’t allow power on a vacant lot until a building permit it issued. The small cabins look very fun to build and less stressful trying to get done on there time frame. With Travis and I both having lots we’d want to build both cabins in a year.

I’d like to build this

Or even as simple as this.

The small cabin layout would be cozy but so enjoyable getting away from it all.

My brothers cabin is the last footprint you showed, although not log and no loft, it suits him just fine...I think lots of people get carried away with what a cabin is supposed to be about - simple = enjoyable. Less is more for maintaining it too. Exiting stuff! Anywhere with a reasonable drive time around here is well over 50k for a bare lot, yours is actually affordable rec property.

Not just rec. property but you can actually live here full time there too. Totally agree on a simple cabin. That’s what I’m leaning toward. My buddy Travis wants something 2500 sq ft. I’d like 700-1000 sq ft. North of us is La Pine and Sunriver. A one acre lot 50 miles north is about $30K goes higher the closer you get to Bend, Oregon.

I love the Mtns and so does Snowball❄

Been working on its 4BT and SOA swap for over a year and a half. Can’t wait to take it down and play in the woods.

Spent 3 days and went to my Crater Lake Property to clear land and burn slash, fill in the septic test holes and have some fun on the mini excavator.

What a great time to getaway. In the planning phases for a structure. Not sure if we’ll do a foundation or build on pier blocks. Next up will be the septic system installation.

The neighbor put up a new fence along our property line.

Good fences make good neighbors. Lucky for you he put that one up on his dime. Some day, you'll likely be glad that the fence is there.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying your build thread!
