You must have more wood than is apparent in the pictures to be throwing that into a burn pile.
Unfortunately most of those logs have been on the ground for years and are rotten inside. I really wish it was good firewood. That burn pile is really bigger than it looks. It’s about 15’ in diameter and 15’ tall.

I’ve added two partial scoops from a 3-1/2 yard bucket to this pile since this picture.

Stay warm on your visit, it's 17F here in Sisters this morning and probably closer to 10F at your place.

Happy Thanksgiving!

If only they'd finished CA168 to Bishop, then it would be a really fun drive.

Someone said they made maps showing it completed, and people showed up with that map asking how to get across. I’d be curious to see what the route was supposed to be. I’ve hiked that area.

Got to the property and hooked power up from generator to well pump to have water ready in case the slash burn got too big. Thankfully I was ready. I lite the pile and it took off. To keep it calmed down I drenched the inside coals but at times due to the dry wood and size of the pile it was hard to keep it controlled. Flames were shooting 30’ in the air. About an hour of soaking the pile with water and it shrunk enough that I could relax.

With no snow on the ground it made easy clean up and all that’ll be left is the heap of coals.

Reload and his chew toy.

My buddy Matt and his so Harlan made it down for a few hours in the evening and hung out. He’s been wanting to see the property for awhile now. It’s was nice to have some company.

Home sweet home. It got so cold that Reload slept on the cot with me. I had a small electric heater I used to get the inside comfortable but the low 40s is all I could manage. I slept pretty well in my -20F Marmot winter sleeping bag.

Property getting really cleaned up. Spent the morning planting the plants I got a couple weeks ago.

Also started cutting up firewood to take home. The left side is my lot and the right in some people in Hawaii’s lot. What a difference.

I’d really like to buy this lot and it’s adjacent lot. That be over 6 acres.

Since I had my phone in my pocket all day Friday while burning the slash pile and collecting wood, I was curious how many steps I took.

Next trip will be to checkout the property when we get some snow, but won’t have time to until January.

That’s why I’m waiting for snow, it significantly slows the fire down. I also had a fire get way beyond my comfort level, last May. I had a borrowed 500 gallon water trailer with pump and hose. I kept the water on the pile until the fire calmed down. I burned a pile last January, and it was much slower progressing. Also I don’t have the option of borrowing the water trailer this time of year, they’ve already winterized. They’re higher elevation than us.

There’s 21 minutes from first picture to last picture.

The biggest reason I wanted to burn before snow was the center burns out but leaves everything on the sides and needs to be burned again. That happened last winter to us. I said not again😆.
Nice loader!!!

We threw everything in at this point. It was still really hot, we had to stand back and use a long stick. I still prefer it over the risk of the fire getting away from me.

🤣that snow looked much deeper in the other pics

The heat was melting it.
Yeah. I was talking about the pic from further away. Looked like there was deeper snow. It’s so hard to tell. This was my first year burning slash with Travis in 2’ of snow. The limbs under the snow were frozen in and solid and just burned the centers out. Even with the mini excavator it was pointless chipping the slash free.
