built a stub wall for the shower.
I have spotty reception here. I thought I posted those pics and the meter install but looked and they didn’t post.Curious about the grounding wire there in the last pic. Commonly around here those are clamped to a ~6' long X ~Ø 3/4" copper plated steel rod driven into the ground with the clamp a few inches above grade. I'm guessing that the requirements are different there?
I’m so thankful to not have to hear that generator anymore!!!You're cheating! You’re supposed to be off grid...
I know just enough about AC power to be dangerous. Have no idea if Code about ground rods differs with location or application or whatever.I have spotty reception here. I thought I posted those pics and the meter install but looked and they didn’t post.
I drove 2- 5/8” x 8’ steel ground rods and ran #4 copper ground wire. Ground rods are 8’ apart.
Thanks @ntsqd
I just added them on the previous page.
So many local variations on code, vastly different up here.
Good progress though!
I’m thankful they wanted me to do as much as I did. I asked the foreman on the line crew if they ever provide and install the conduit to the meter. He told me that it’d be spendy.Really enjoying this thread. I'm in the process of building out a bare piece of land so lots of interesting stuff here.
Couple of questions on the power stuff, knowing of course that every region will be a bit different.
- With you doing the bulk of the prep work yourself, how was the cost just to have the power company come out and install the transformer and run lines?
- How long was the underground run you did from the pole to the meter?
- Did you have a permit specific to their stuff, that ended with the meter hookup? Or is it rolled into something larger that encompasses the rest of the wiring you need to do?
Thanks!

I’m only familiar with some of our current code, been off the tools too long now, however BC electrical code is pretty consistent. Is code all the same up there?
I remember reading at least in one part of Canada there were two types of building permits 1. Residence 2. Recreation cabin. Recreation cabin permits were much more relaxed, and you couldn’t have plumbing or electrical.
