Hi everyone,

I've have unsuccessfully searched but to no avail.

I'm trying to install the locktab washer for the crank nut on a 77 FJ40 but this process is eluding me. I purchased 2 and have just sheared the inner tab off of the first one. Any hints, tips, tricks to be shared before I give the second one a try?

Thanks much in advance,

Paul

I’ve only done it once but remember putting assembly lube between the nut and washer but kept it dry on the backside of washer. Also made sure the backside of the nut was smooth and not ruffed up?

Lube a generous :) Skim Kote all Surfaces first.......

- pulley face

- both sides of NEW OEM washer lock

- back side of the big claw cut too

- use only MOBILE 1 Full Synthetic engine oil

- method i use and it works for me

- idea :

reduce all friction all surfaces .....no binding

Thanks for the replies!
That's 2 for lube.:)

Do I let the nut bend over the tab or do I bend it prior to lubing?

i don't know what NUT your your trying to bend here , but don't try too hard .......

any final setting or " Stake-Folding " of the Star Washer Tabs over the Crank shaft Pulley Retainer Main Nut , is the Last Step ?

unless i am missing something here ....🤔

Mr. T says : " Apply a light coat of engine oil on the nut before installing "

Maybe they figured that since it's a Land Cruiser engine it would already be liberally coated with engine oil!

i do not think The MUD Engine Bay Club and Club-House fellow members would agree ...........

especially the Chapter President here ........ 🤔
