Title says most of it:rolleyes: it is drawing fuel to the carb but just doesnt get to the cylinders. if I add fule inside the carb its runs then dies. this happend sudden.. it ran fine early this spring, then it wouldnt run with out the choke on now no gas to the cylinders
what gives?
brigs and straton motor from the early 90's
little help??
thanks:beer:

ps my riding lawn mower needs a locker.

There is a solenoid that screws into the bottom of the carburetor. This is the fuel shut off solenoid. Make sure you ahave 12V to it when the key is on. It should click.

The wiring that feed the solenoid goes through every safety switch on the riding mower. Seat Switch, neutral switch, clutch/brake pedal switch, blade engagement switch, etc

as far as your locker, add windshield wiper fluid to each of the back tires.

There are no wires that screw into the bottom of the carb, There is 2 wires that go right next to the exhaust mainifold would that be it? This, I'm not sure but doesnt look like it would be able to stop the gas flow. I guess I should be looking for disconnected wires?

yes but just a short time, drove it about 50 yards. last year it ran fine.

Check the fuel line real good to the carb. My Cub had a similar problem last year. The fuel line had some dry rot cracks that would suck air and not let it run yet there was fuel in the line.

my two Craftsmen riding mowers have "deadman" switches on the seat ..no driver sitting..no go! Possibility?
Oops ... missed D'Animal's previous note regarding safety switches...anyway I didn't figure this out till about the 10th time
I vacated the seat and the machine shut down - was spooky at first!!

You are going to have to help us out a little here. We ahve no idea what you are looking at.

This is a Briggs and Stratton but is it a single cylinder, Opposed Twin Cylinder or a V Twin?

If you prime the carb it starts and dies. Does it have electric start or are you pulling a rope? If you have electric start and it does this, that means your safety switches are good. If it has a pull rope and does this, it also means your safety switches are good.

Since it does not have the electric fuel solenoid on the bottom or the side of the carburetor, it sound like the inlet needle is stuck. Remove the nut on the bottom of the bowl on the carburetor. You will see a float. Look at the arm on the top of the float adn see if the inlet need is sitting on it. if it is not, that means it is stuck in the seat. Unstick it and then reassemble everything and get your yard mowed.

Seafoam may be his friend.

Kyle - Seafoam is a carb cleaner, gas fixer upper and a mouthwash. It's available at auto part stores. I have a friend with a Honda generator that ran about like yours because it sat so much. He got Seafoam, used it and VOILA !! Good as new.

ok thanks for the responses.
14 horse opposing electric start riding mower... safety switches are good
Briggs motor
I will look at the lines in the morning but last I pulled them off they were pretty full of gas but will double check
thanks guys!

there is a square small box that the fuel line goes into (and is on the side of the carb) 4 bolts has a rubber type gasket that separates a couple of springs, I pulled this apart and put it back together. same problem as before..... but a saw no needle........... did I look at the correct thing?? ih8carbs.. but am willing,,,

I will try to get to it Monday I'll pull it apart then crank it

ok I will do that tuesday to busy today
thanks D'animal

If I disconnect any line it cant pull gas because there wont be any vacuum to pull it with. But I can feel the suction. fuel pump unit is attached to the carb by 3 bolts (looks like a sandwich) it has a diaphram type rubber gasket inside with 3 springs, pretty sure that the pump is vacuum from the motor. all lines are clear, pulls gas to the pump but doesnt get into the carb. I take appart the pump and fuel runs out.
what next???
