I should be clear.. I probably would use safelite to repair a bullseye or chip, if there were no other good options. They do a ton of that and frankly there is a lot less to go wrong. But I would not let them replace a windshield.

Biggest risk is that the chip turns into a crack. If that happens your only option will be new glass.Question, how risky is it to drive 200 miles with this crack so we can get home?
We’re currently on Block Island and there’s no glass repair shop here. Taking the ferry and driving home Sunday morning. I called a bunch of glass repair shops on our route but they’re all closed on Sundays.
I can keep searching for something, or just make it home then try to get it repaired. Hopefully it won’t crack beyond repair. What would you guys do?
Exactly. How likely is that to happen in a 200 mile highway drive?Biggest risk is that the chip turns into a crack. If that happens your only option will be new glass.
Thanks for the reply. My risk tolerance is 6.06% so I just made it, lol.6.05354245% chance
I wouldnt think twice and just drive. unless another rock hit it in the exact same spot
Or you flex the body of the car going over rocks or a curb you'll be fine
if you super neurotic put a piece of packing tape on it and just get it home
I got another chip on our yearly Arctic circle trip. Got the chip north of the Brooks range and made it the ~800 miles back home. ~400 miles of that rock/mud/dirt/gravel on the Dalton before I got it repaired.Exactly. How likely is that to happen in a 200 mile highway drive?
anyone who's had to replace a windshield have to get any sort of "Advanced driver assist system" recalibrated? Long story short is that I just noticed that bit of information on the bottom of the invoice from my auto glass place following my new windshield. TIA!
As I stated in #22, that is required if you have Lane Departure.
Thanks for the reply. I don’t remember that being a feature I lost from my first replacement.
Data point confirmed that the lane departure “feature” is still functional without a dealer visit.I do not even use that feature (I have it turned off) but I did not want have it not be in proper working order.
My first crack was with less than 50 miles on the odoI got my second crack in the 3400 miles I've owned the LC this weekend. I heard the object hit, and it was just a "think", not a hard hit like the first one... Arrrrg!

I don’t have a 16+ with the relevant hardware but from posts here I’ve gathered that if the installer unhooks the windshield mounted cameras during panel install it will need calibration. If they leave the cameras connected to their harnesses calibration can be skipped.Data point confirmed that the lane departure “feature” is still functional without a dealer visit.
Is there anyone aware of any pre collision recalibration necessary following Indy shop replacement?
