During the weekend of Aug11-13 I did a Meteor Shower Run up on Coyote Flats. As you know the main show was supposed to be on Sunday night (monday morning) around 2-4am. A lot of the group stayed up all night to wait. Just about when the main show was supposed to happen the basin around Coyote Lake (where we were camped) filled up with smoke and ash and the smell of a fire. One person in our group said he saw a red glow on one of the ridges but I never saw it. So, it's 3am, you are camped in a spot where there is only one way out and we have some kids with us...what do you do? The smoke was so heavy you couldn't see the starts or the meteors. The consenses was to pack up and leave. We had 6 trucks and 13 people and were totally packed up and loaded, tents and all in 45 minutes. So our trip was cut short a little and we didn't see the Great Meteor Shower that was predicted but we had a great time exploring Coyote Flats and saw some great views. The following is a link to the pictures I took. Hope you enjoy.
