Nice! I am stuck at road work on 395

So when you make the left to the plateau, the turn is a mile ish on the right. You will see a lonely patch of snow. If you pass it, too far, the turn off is just before it.

Just got home.... Super sad I won't be making this trip...:cry::cry::cry:

FWIW we've started taking Route 14 to and from 395 and taking that through LA rather than deal with the single lane 395 mayhem. Two lane goodness on 14 and lots of carpool lanes going through LA. Safe travels all - looking forward to a trip report.

Agreed, 395 can be a pain.

Glad you all made it back safe. We developed a small issue with our ride for our trip so turns out it was good we did not make the trip.

Another awesome trip! 🍺

I'm going to look into this, I'm taking off the 27th to head to the Eastern Sierras for a few days.

These days Google Maps or Waze will tell you the best route, don't overthink. On the way up we took 395 and hit very little traffic (on 395 that is). On the way back it sent us Rt 14. Rt. 14 was overall slower than 395 on a good day, but faster than 395 on this particular Sunday.

How were the bugs? Great pics! Fish?
The bugs were there but it wasn't bad at all, I didn't use any bug spray and we didn't end up using those fancy mosquito repellers.

Caught a bunch of fish the first couple days but we were stationed on Bishop Creek. Only caught one little golden and one keeper size when at Hidden Lake.

There were very few bugs and less and less with each passing day. Nights were getting into the 30's which starts to kill bugs. By the end of the month they can get into the 20's so be prepared to be warm if you head up there.

Coyote flats will have bugs June/July but they die off quickly come August due to the dry conditions and low overnight temps. This area is basically high desert very near the tree line vs. the central/western Sierras which are much wetter/warmer.

Now on the hike to Hidden Lake, we encountered some bugs. That is by the Baker campground which due to its proximity to these lower meadows that are wet and buggy. Still, a little bug spray is all it took.

Zach caught some fish at Hidden.

I am uploading pics....

So now for a bit of a trip report.

First off much thanks to Tim and Zach for making it out. Our kids played and had a blast, food was awesome, the Coyote Plateau did not disappoint.

As most of you saw I headed up Thursday with my two older boys. My youngest who is 17 months had to get some stitches removed after having a cyst removed from behind his eye brow Friday morning so my wife would meet up with us Friday afternoon.

On the way up we encountered some rocking thunder storms...

However we finally made it to the air down / staging area.

The drive up the mountain was uneventful but very scenic. There was a lot more snow up there than in past years.

We found the campsite we had scoped out last year and I must say I so glad we camp here vs. Funnel Lake. It was flat, the kids could play, we didn't have to worry about them scaling rock faces and falling off, and best off all it is much more sheltered so we didn't have to suffer through 50MPH winds at night.

Once we got camp set up I grabbed a quick picture of Daniel (older) and Garrett.

Deer would be a common sighting over the duration of the trip.

What was interesting is what followed. Daniel told me he saw a gray bear behind the tress across from where the deer were spotted. I couldn't see what he was seeing no matter how hard I tried but I had him describe it to me. He said it looked like a fox but bigger, was gray, and had blue eyes. I told him that sounded like a wolf so I had the boys stay close to camp that night.

After dinner smores were enjoyed.

After sun down I put the kiddos to bed and enjoyed myself a cigar.

The next morning we decided to set to find some cell service to get out information to help the others find the place and for me to get an update on when the wife was to arrive. After hiking to higher ground we drove about 10 minutes to the other side of the plateau. However, during the hike we got some more pictures of the area as well as some of a grave marker for someone who likely enjoyed the outdoors and was admired and loved by his friends and family.

My truck in the background kind of puts the scenery into perspective.
