I've owned my LX for just over one year and spent more on repairs than all 4 of my 3rd Gen 4runners combined over 8 years and several hundred thousand miles. Not knocking the LX/LC, it's been great other than sorting out an expensive CV issue, but the 3rd Gens are exceptional. I bought them all around 150k and sold them around 250k, the only unexpected failure was one single alternator. I never even changed a timing belt, I bought them well maintained with t belt service done, and sold them for about what I paid for them a couple years later. I miss those days, it's getting hard to find clean 3rd gens now.
