I bought a corrugated hard top a while back that had corner glass.
I initially thought someone had added them, but now I'm not so sure.
Originally, was corner glass ever installed that way from the factory?

Corner windows on "corrugated" hard tops along with a window added into the bottom panel of the bi-fold door are owner modifications, never factory.

Sure you'll see them. FJ40 owners from day one have always added (and continue to this day to add) all kinds of things to "improve" Toyota's factory design.

If Toyota had added corner windows they would have been at the same level as the side windows. By the looks I would say those are corner windows from a pickup. FJ40 corner windows are taller then the side windows on the corrugated tops. These and second window in the hatch we're done because of the blind spots without them. Short car behind with just the upper window wouldn't be seen if it was right on the back of the cruiser.

Maybe the second glass in the hatch was added from day one but corner glass started during 64 on the removable pickup cap with the shorter glass and during 65 for the longer taller FJ40 glass. I like to think of it as people updating to Toyota's improvements to the 4X series. I started doing this pretty quick to my 68 FJ40 shortly after buying it in 74. Only thing that I can think of that wasn't from a newer 4X series is the Lock-rites in the diffs. I never got around to was front disc brakes which have everything but the larger brake lines that run along the frame.

Now people who want a factory specified FJ40 have to either spend considerable time and money undoing previous owner modifications or search (frequently in vain) for the very rare, very elusive unmodified original specimen of any vintage.

Disc brake conversions are a perfect example of a modification that has become so "normalized" that many members here will scoff at owners who choose to stay with their drums. And the list of "must-have" modifications goes on . . . and on.

So true about undoing previous mods. In some ways mine 68 could go back to stock. Biggest issue would be to patch the spot I cut to install a radio in the lower dash. Original lower dash pad would cover the opening but need original piece I cut out has a bracket on the back for the high/low shift linkage. Bought my one owner 70 because it had few mods, both are rust free.

I would even bet that they are not Toyota either. I have seen several that use early 50s Chevy pickup corner glass.

To me it looks like the size and shape of the windows used on the FJ45 pickup. If from a 45 it will have Toyota marking on the bottom of the glass. I've compared them and pickup windows and corrugated top side windows are the same height. What I do notice is the windows look a little odd the way they are mounted. My guess it because the corrugated tops the sides and back are vertical while the pickup and the non-corrugated tops are angle in slightly sides and back.
