So i am getting the house painted before we sell it and the painters took off all the gutters. He mentioned that my gutters were really heavy for some reason. I picked one up and noticed that they were made of copper. I was wondering if it makes sense to take the copper gutters down to the metal yard and get some $$ for them. My replacement cost for new gutters from HD would be about $24, this is only for the down tubes.

Wadda think, would it be smart to sell them - how much is copper worth theses days?

Copper reached an all time high yesterday. It's around $1.60/lb on the exchange. Of course, you would get less than that at a scrap yard.

the more i think about it the more sense it DOESNT make. Say i have 20/30lbs of copper, at most i would pocket $32-$48 bucks. Then i would have to go to HD and buy replacement stuff....doesnt sound like a good move....

we have our dumpsters picked up loaded out with the aluminum gutters we tear down.......the 5 yd. dumpster pays out in the thousands when they pick it up.

If you've only got a short run of gutter, then no, I wouldn't mess with it. A whole house, sure. Strap it to the roof of your hot new ride and drive it down there....

Look for an architectural salvage company in your area-- you'll probably get more for them than you would at the scrap metal place, provided they are in good shape and can be reused.

Copper is primo stuff, people pay top dollar for copper gutters when they are renovating old houses.

If it's in good shape, you might have a gold (copper) mine on your hands.

good news, you passed the methhead test :)....see them fawking methheads KNOW that copper is worth money, I have seen them steal rolls of wire, burn the coating off and sell the copper.

    worthless lowlife pieces of s***!

see I just spent the day cleaning up a rental that was inhabited by methheads......I can't take enough showers to feel clean!
