I am replacing the head gasket on my 1986 H2 engine and I noticed that both the old gasket and the new one cover the coolant ports along the passenger side of the motor, never had any overheating issues but I am wondering why these would be covered by the gasket. should I cut holes to allow coolant to flow up to the head? I read about early and later H2 head gaskets, is this possibly what they are referring to?
