I searched. Just throwing that out there. So STFU if you're going to tell me to do a search.

I just did a flush of my cooling system, unhooked lower radiator hose, filled radiator with water, ran until hot, unhooked hose again, repeated until water ran completely clear. I've got three 5 gallon buckets full.

When I purchased the truck, god knows who mixed red and green coolant. So I took it to a shop and asked them to do a flush, and get completely rid of one color. I guess they just did a drain and fill because from the reservoir and from the radiator cap, it looked fine, but in the bucket, it looked like some auto repair shop didn't do their job.

So my question is this: when refilling the radiator, it would only take about 3 gallons total, 1.5 gallons of distilled water and 1.5 gallons of Toyota red coolant. And that's including the reservoir. Does 3 gallons of fluid sound about right, or did I not get the rest of the water out from my flush? Pretty much, do I have like a 40/60 coolant to water ratio, or am I okay.

It's the factory radiator and reservoir. I couldn't find anything in the owners manual about it. So I don't know. Help me.

Yes, you got most of the old stuff out. You need to drain the block if you want to put in more than 3 gallons of fluid.

It'll be alright that way though, right? The temperatures probably get under freezing 2 or 3 days out of the year.

Re-read your post minus what I quoted above. It would have been a good post; no one would have given you sh*t for it. What's with the fu*ckin attitude???

I couldn't find anything in the owners manual about it.

I'll mail you a twenty dollar bill if "cooling system total capacity" isn't in the specifications section of the owner's manual. Seriously.

When have we not?

You're safe Curtis. You should have bet him instead of just offering to send him $20.

TomatoPaste,
You can get an electronic copy of your Owners Manual and any other manual you need by spending some time and $10 at the TIS. The procedure is well documented here in the 80-Section.

And I agree with CJF... it is extremely bad form to tell people to STFU when you start out a post.

TomatoPaste didn't ask anybody to STFU :)

Maybe I'm dreaming?

Oh.... I get it. It is TomatoPANTS, not TomatoPASTE. And all this time I wondered what would possess someone to pick a nym like TomatoPaste... Now, I wonder what would possess someone to pick a nym like TomatoPants. :D

Just to add another actual amount:

With my stock radiator I was always able to get in about 3.75 gallons between the coolant and the water. I measure this by actually blowing out both heater cores with soft air supply.

With my Man-A-Fre aluminum radiator I am able to get in about 4.75 gallons between the coolant and the water.

Hope that helps.

Telling people to STFU is a joke. I wouldn't actually tell people to shut up if they gave me something specific to search for. Not just a "use the search function before posting a new thread" so I'm extremely sorry if I offended anyone or anyone thought I was being rude.

I have searched high and low; what’s the coolant capacity if the rear heater core was deleted/bypassed?

I had a tee-valve bust and lost most if not all of my coolant to the pavement, unfortunately.

Also, is there some secret to removing the old, incarcerated hoses aside from cutting them to pieces? I have a hook kit and still am struggling.

I was lucky in that it happened in a parking lot, in park, at idle, so no overheating damage known at this time.

No real trick that I'm aware of other than what you mentioned. You might get more responses if you pop this in the 100 series forum too.
