    Funny, I once did the same thing with a D90. A moderate hill with rocky, loose rocks, nothing even the most basic 4WD vehicle couldn't handle, and the thing wouldn't go up the hill. It kept spinning tires and digging itself in. I had it in 1st gear, LO, just like I would in the Tacoma. My friend radioed "Hey what's the problem?"
    I replied "Dude this thing sucks! It won't even go up this little hill! I am SO NOT IMPRESSED!"
    He took a second and said "What gear are you in?"
    "First."
    "Try third or fourth."
    "Huh?"
    "Yeah, try third or fourth. You're in too low of a gear."
    So I went into third, and the thing shot up the hill like it was nothing.
    If the Hummer gears are really low, the dude probably was giving it too much pedal and overtorquing. I've never driven a Hummer, but I've seen them drive over much harder terrain than that with ease. I can't see why that would happen other than too low of a gear.
