Did you know that the hubble pictures are black and white, and are colored after the fact by artistically inclined astronomers?

To say that the pictures are black and white at first, only to be "colored" later on is a bit misleading--what NASA does is assign different colors to the various spectra emanating from the target object to enhance the structures that are there. Many of the elements pictured are outside the visible spectrum, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything there. Do they look like that to the naked eye? No. But what they reveal is cool.
