I would say just don't be ham fisted and get frustrated replacing the rear main under the truck. I nicked the outside lip of mine trying to use a seal puiller. I could see damaging the inner seal surface if I had kept pushing that method. I have also seen people recommend drilling a hole in the old seal and using a screw threaded in to remove rear mains. That could go horribly wrong and end up damaging it if you aren't careful. At least those were the things going through my head as I was under the truck replacing the rear main this weekend. Did I mention that I was already frustrated because I was replacing a seal with less than 100 miles on it because I caught the lip when installing it on an engine stand ?
