Compressor (Sears) Will Not Start

Also, When I look at replacement parts in the manual, they list start capacitors for 3 different motors; WEG (mine), GE, and a third.

You may be right. :frown: Start & Run Caps test w/in spec.
Sounds like next steps are to look at the motor or throw it in the trash.
The motor does look pretty specific. WEG - who is that? Westinghouse Electric?
I do not like the idea of throwing away an entire compressor, just seems awfully wasteful.

What do you all recommend for replacement brand compressor?

WEG = http://www.weg.net/us They make quality stuff - they are the OE electric motor supplier to my last employer - but crushing equipment takes a different class of motor vs. a cheap Sears compressor. :lol: But like all manufacturers they will also make what the customer asks for. In this case a cheap motor that works ok for the occasional user.

You can get a replacement motor/compressor assembly from Sears. But it's almost the cost of a new compressor. I'd start a new thread asking about replacement compressors. For a similar unit check Craig's List.

No - Sears lists motor as NLA - No Longer Available. :frown:

I'm thinking the pawn shop might be a good place to look...
 
the extra tank can be put anywhere (eg - in the attic/rafters); does not have to be right next to the comp.
 
My craftsman compressor started acting the same way. Probably a completely different issue but I was trying to run mine with a 50' extension cord and it wouldnt run. Plugged it directly into the wall outlet and no problems at all.

I wasn't as clear as I needed to be. I was thinkin' more along the lines of since the Weg version is NLA maybe one of the other versions of the entire motor/compressor head is still available. If another version were available you might be able to retrofit your tank that way.

But they are pretty close to a whole compressor in cost at that point so used is likely a better deal. In my area that size compressor can be had on C'List for cheap most any day of the week...
