I did lots of searches and could only find results for other Diesel Motors (ie. 3B and 2H). My "B" Motor has atleast 250,000 kms and is 26 yrs old. I'm wondering what a good number is.

I had the compression checked today after driving the LC for approximately 10 or 15 minutes (hence the motor was slightly warm) and the results were the following:

250
250
280
280

Does this sound about right? From what I've read on this sight about the 3B this would be extremely low.

Thanks!
Ben

that's wierd. My 1995 1HZ tested above 600 each cylinder.... I wouldnt think thayd be that different.

hmm

I would do it again...i think the low number for rebuild is 280...I will confirm this when I can get to my manual. i had a B, now 3B, my 3B was 420s across the board.

check your tester, etc, and try again...I'll get back to you to confrim the low acceptable limit...

3b stock is 425. i cant recal the rebuild, i think that 240 rings a bell. you are fairly consistant. otherwise how does it run was the test for fun or to diagnos some problem

Thanks for y,our responses. This cruiser is very new to me and though the motor sounds very strong I have a noticed considerably less power than in two "H" motors that I have owned. Maybe this is completely normal though. Since I have never owned a "B" motor before, the "H" is the only thing I can compare it to.

While ideling the truck sounds great and it has good exceleration coming out of 1st gear, but coming out of 2nd and 3rd is a different story.

My mechanic also mentioned the idea putting a turbo on it but I would have to give that some more though. He told me it would run about $800 installed.

Have you done the compressiontest only dry or also wet?
If so what difference did you see?

Before starting to think about a turbo I would look into the condition of the engine first. What worries is the difference between cylinder 1 and 2 and cylinder 3 and 4.
Are you sure the valves are okay?
